Greetings!
I like having a life coach. Even though I'm pretty good with working on work/life balance, we all let things go because we're too busy.
My coach uses a phrase with me that didn't make sense at first: Leaving Room. In context, it refers to leaving time or space in your life (and work) for new things to show up.
Today, it's one of my most powerful tools. And the power of "leaving room" was evident this week a I started taking things off my to-do list. As I mentioned last week, I'm trimming some activities in my work life.
A good chunk of my week was spent cutting back, dropping things from my calendar, and simplifying. But then I had my regular weekly call with Kara, the Community Manager for the SBT Technology Community. It started like most weekly calls, but ended with a flurry of creative ideas and a project I am actually excited about.
That's the power of leaving room.
If a great idea pops into your head, or a true opportunity drops on your desk, do you have time take on a new project? Do you have the ability to execute some new, fun thing that gives you energy and makes you happy?
Sometimes, our lives are so jam packed that we can't make room for even the most exciting new projects. That's a good sign that you need to leave more room for serendipity.
A surprisingly simple way to leave room is to literally block off parts of your calendar with nothing on them. If nothing amazing shows up, you can use that time for regular work and catching up. But if something amazing does show up, you'll have time to think about it.
I realize that not all ideas are good ideas, and not everything that looks like an opportunity really is one. But if you're too busy to even see ideas and opportunities, then you're really stuck. That can lead to overwhelm and collapse.
Rather than creating cycles of overwork and collapse, try leaving some room in your schedule from time to time.
Just a thoughts.

Multiply Time
It is not uncommon for people to multitask, but as we know, interruptions happen, and valuable time is lost when it does. With automation, you need to be there at the start of the process, and when you get a chance to verify everything when completed allowing you to concentrate on the important stuff in between.
Consistency In Process
We all know how much time is wasted in dealing with inconsistency, Time </Hack> Scripts™ addresses that right from the first script you use.
Reduced Skills Required
We know how difficult it is to find skilled labor for many of the tasks we do daily. Let’s remove that restriction from your business and allow “non-tech” people to help.
Sponsored by Small Biz Thoughts. Cuz, you know, why not?
