Kassidy Keith Claims 2015 Running Fox CET National Medal Final

Toronto, ON, Nov. 13, 2015 --  Kassidy Keith of Duncan, BC added another win to her record at the Royal Horse Show in Toronto, ON by claiming the 2015 Running Fox CET National Medal Final on Nov. 12, 2015.

Keith, who also won the 2015 Jump Canada Medal Final earlier in the week, earned the highest cumulative score over three phases (Flat/Gymnastic, Jumping, and Final Four Test) against a field of 15 top equitation riders from the four regions of Atlantic, Ontario, Prairies, and British Columbia.

"It feels amazing to have come this far and to have won both medals this year," commented Keith, who is coached by her mother, Cheryl Anne, and John Turner.

Riding Wallabee, a 17-year-old Canadian Warmblood gelding owned by Jolene Benham, Keith started out the final with second place finish in the Flat and Gymnastic phase on Nov. 11, which asked the competitors to complete a pattern that included collected and extended gaits, four changes of lead down the centre line, a trot fence, a double-bounce combination, and a turn on the haunches.

She returned to the ring for the following day's Jumping phase, achieving the highest score of the night for her concise trip around a course that demanded efficiency to meet the tight time allowed, and featured a three-part broken line with a liverpool, and a triple combination.

Due to her win in the Jumping phase, Keith earned a two-phase total score of 174, not only assuring her spot in the Final Four Test, but allowing her the advantage of watching her peers navigate the challenging test first. A commendable performance in the test, highlighted by precise execution of the trickiest elements - cantering from the line-up directly to the triple combination; and cantering into a four-stride broken line, then squeezing in a halt before carrying on to trot the second fence.

"I thought the courses were great. They were tough, but Wallabee was awesome. He is my best friend, I love him," said Keith of the big grey gelding who was orphaned as a foal and has been part of her life since she was four years old. The 2015 season has been one of their most successful, qualifying to compete at the Royal Horse Show not only in the equitation classes, but also in the Hunter Derby and Junior Hunter.

As the Running Fox CET National Medal Final winner, Keith received a brand new Luc Childeric saddle from title sponsor, Running Fox. In addition, Running Fox provided all 15 competitors with a Walsh leather halter, and the top eight with coolers.

"It's really nice to be able to provide a venue for young riders to aspire to," said Debra Smith, co-owner of Running Fox, which has been sponsoring the CET National Medal Final for 20 years. "Riding in the CET Medal teaches them so much. Whether they are going to be a professional and teach, or a jumper rider aspiring to go to the Olympics, it's not easy to do these days. You have to have a base and I think the CET Medal really helps the kids develop a base. We've had CET Medal Final winners like Tiffany Foster go on to the Canadian Equestrian Team. Every time she is on a team I just feel so happy that she was a part of this system, and I hope that she is a beacon for younger kids coming along."

Smith was on-hand during the award presentation, and accompanied by Equine Canada Manager, Jumping, Karen Hendry-Ouelette, Jump Canada Chair, Pamela Law, and John Anderson, son of CET founder, the late Barbara Anderson.

The 2015 Reserve Champion in the Running Fox CET National Medal Final was Arora Peters from Aldergrove, BC aboard In Shock, owned by Asta Torokvei. Third place went to Brianna Ballard of St. Lazare, QC and her own Carpe Diem. Rounding out the top four was Megan Champoux from Aldergrove, BC and Catherine Chalack's Chicago.

Designed to provide a skill-building foundation for the next generation of Canadian Equestrian Team riders, the CET Medal series was founded by the late Barbara Anderson, and is an equitation competition where riders are judged on their position and riding style.
