Kate's New Job!

Kate

Many of our students want to build skills for career-related goals. In fact, 66% say they hope to find a new job or earn a promotion!

One of these students is Transitions ESL student Kate (pictured), who is also a member of our Student Leadership Council and a graduate of our Student Ambassador Training. Kate is originally from Belarus, where she studied chemistry. She was thrilled to let her teachers know that she received an offer for a chemist position with the UW Lab of Hygiene!

She shared, "I sincerely appreciate all your help and support throughout my journey. Literacy Network has been such an important part of my adaptation to a new country and the start of this new career chapter. I feel incredibly grateful that my first steps here were with such a welcoming and inspiring community...Thank you again for everything! I’m so happy to share this news with you!"

Congratulations, Kate!

A Peek Inside the Classroom: Exploring the Library

Student with library card

Students in a recent Community English class at Meadowridge Library were excited to hear about all our public libraries have to offer! During a tour, library staff showed students how to find books to help with learning English, introduced them to the children's section as a free resource for families, and more. At the end of the session, all students applied for their own library cards!

Literacy Network is proud to partner with five Dane County libraries to offer English classes for members of our community!
