Servant Leader
Corp! Magazine interviewed Kathleen and the other three Hall of Fame inductees about their goals, guiding principles and advice (read the article here). Her message in the interview rings true and can be lost at times: “Remember what matters. Leaders have a responsibility to those who follow them to give their all, to have a servant attitude and to help others thrive. It’s not about you. If you’re in it for you, you’re unlikely to make a good leader. One has to have a desire to serve.”
This is good stuff! We are here to serve others whether at work, at home or in our community and world. This cannot be a superficial approach, but rather a deep-seated value about how you approach life. It’s both vision and action. To that end, Kathleen also has taught me through example that it is OK, in fact, beneficial to show your faith in your leadership…faith in your strategy, team members and in GOD. While many times we try and separate personal and business, the way you live your life should be consistent. There should not be a “work you” and a “home you,” just be YOU!
Having a friend, mentor, and an example like Kathleen has helped shape me as a person and as a leader. United Road is blessed to have Kathleen McCann as our Executive Chairman, mentor and friend. Our world is blessed as well. Let’s learn from Kathleen’s example. Let’s each become the best person and professional possible – and help and serve others. The world will be kinder and we’ll each be happier.
Please join me in recognizing Kathleen’s accomplishments – United Road’s special leader and Hall of Fame inductee. Kathleen – URaStar!
