Kathy Kallick Band News
                                         Dec. 11/18
Seasons Greetings -

The Kathy Kallick Band's  Horrible World has been out for less than three months, but is getting played throughout the world(s) of bluegrass/folk/ acoustic music radio. The well-regarded  FOLK DJ CHARTS  for Sept. - Nov., 2018
document  some of this action:
- TOP ALBUMS: Horrible World (#4, #2, #4)
- TOP ARTISTS: Kathy Kallick Band (#4, #1, #3)
- TOP SONGS OF THE MONTH: "Ride Away," "Pockets Full Of Rain," and "(It's A) Horrible World" are all receiving significant airplay.

Thanks for all the spins to all the DJs, including  WFMT's Rich Warren, who made the album  one of "Rich's Picks" when he debuted it, and includes it on his  , noting that, "There's nothing this quintet can't do ... humor and contemplation and some political references [with] an impressive amount of finely-played musical horsepower, led by Kallick's versatile vocals."

Horrible World has received some blush-worthy reviews; here's an excerpt from one:
"Put a Kathy Kallick Band album on, and you know you're in for songs, arrangements, and performances at the highest level. And you will never have your intelligence insulted. As the title implies,  Horrible World carries a strong element of social commentary directed at this particularly unsettled, chaotic moment in our national journey, but the criticism is laced with hope and humor, the commentary subtext as much as text ... Amid all the superior original music and musicianship, 'Cotton Eyed Joe' is the standout, brilliantly reinvented ... Just about everything I love about American folk music is in that song. Kallick and companions lay down an adaptation for the ages."   - Jerome Clark, Rambles

If you visit the KKB home page, you'll see the 200+ DJs/radio shows/stations playing music from the album. And you can read the comments of several generations of musical peers who've had a listen to  Horrible World . They include:  Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, Dale Ann Bradley, Justin Hiltner, Kristin Scott-Benson, Mike Compton, Molly Tuttle, Pat Enright, Pete Wernick, Rob Ickes, and Tristan Scroggins.

The My Route To 66 birthday party and songwriting retrospective back in September was a big success and Big Fun. Thanks to all who made it possible, including the 16 other musicians, the  Freight & Salvage, and Irene Young, who recorded the concert and shot the photos in this newsletter. See below for links to viewing a couple new songs done at that show with my wonderful and mighty band: Annie Staninec, Cary Black, Greg Booth, and Tom Bekeny.
