February 2019

Dear Friend,

It's that time of year again, when the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo brings a bustle of activity to our city. Texans love the connections to our cowboy heritage, but many people don't know that Houston's native coastal prairie once blanketed the region and helped shape our culture and drive our economic growth.

Today, the coastal prairie is one of the world's most endangered ecosystems. Every day, the Katy Prairie Conservancy is working to protect these lands, both for current Houstonians and future generations. Cattle roam the open prairie on our Warren Ranch, one of the largest working cattle ranches in Harris County. And the 23,000 acres we have protected so far play an important role in flood control, outdoor recreation, and wildlife habitat.

I hope you will head out to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this year - February 27 to March 17 - and take a look at KPC's fun, interactive exhibit for kids in the Tour of Texas, part of AGVENTURE located in Hall A of NRG Center. We are proud to be a part of this educational opportunity for young and old alike.

Thank you for all you do to help us protect the prairie.
