Kauai Board of REALTORS ® Monthly
June 2020 The Pathway Forward
June 2, 2020
LETTER FROM KBR EXECUTIVE OFFICER, Karen Ono:
Aloha Fellow REALTORS® and Members:

Since March 21, 2020 all non-essential businesses were forced to close. Now, as businesses start to reopen, and inter-island air travel commences as of mid-June, KBR is working where you need us most: your business. We recently sent a short survey to Kaua‘i’s PB’s and BIC’s asking questions to highlight their greatest concerns. Overwhelmingly, they answered: financial solvency, the economy and tourism.

As we move into summer, KBR brings alternate sources of programming and product delivery. We implemented “Zoom” online meetings and classrooms. To date, we’ve offered 2 Core A CE courses and scheduled the Professionalism Part II – “The Purchase Contract” with Kimo Stone on June 18th. The Professional Development/Education Committee and staff are confirming a list of instructors who are certified to teach new and seasoned agents the Strategies of Finance, the Strategies of Listings, and the Strategies of the Purchase Contract. In addition to these courses, KBR is establishing a partnership with the Honolulu Board of REALTORS® to offer the GRI series via zoom. Please check the Education tab on our website

LETTER FROM KBR PRESIDENT, Julian A. Coiner:

Aloha Kauai Board of REALTORS® Membership,

Along with Karen and Toni and the Board of Directors, I wish you aloha, strength and resolve during these most challenging times for our industry, island and world. I, too, look forward to seeing you at our Zoom General Membership meeting on June 10 and Paul Brewbaker’s new updated Zoom presentation June 17. Register with Toni via email.

LONG TERM AND SHORT TERM RENTAL MANAGEMENT
As Karen indicates in her letter, this month we are placing a spotlight on 2 critical aspects of the real estate business: Property Management and Short Term Rentals. Both are in crisis mode, and with Governor Ige’s May 28, 2020 announcement to extend the mandatory quarantine for all travelers entering Hawaii beyond June 30, 2020, we are all cognizant of the ripple effects through the economy.

To shed light on concerns specific to both rental operations, I contacted 3 KBR Committee members with experience and influence in these arenas to further understand their well-founded concerns.
