Joye Irwin has lived in Hawaii for 44 years with 37 of those years on Kauai. While living on Oahu she served as an Ombudsman for her husband’s Navy squadron, was involved in Navy wives’ clubs, joined various sports teams and coached soccer.
Joye and her late husband moved to Kauai in 1989 after he retired from the Navy.
Genealogy is a passion and she loves finding new family connections. Joye has volunteered at the Wilcox Hospital Gift Shop. She currently is volunteering at the Kauai Veterans Museum and is treasurer for the organization. She also volunteers in her church.
Joye renewed her love of music by joining the church choir in 1991 and soon joined the Kauai Chorale. Having been in the Kauai Chorale for over 30 years, she has served as treasurer for eight years and has been secretary for the last 15. She enjoys singing in a community choir that has been active for 63 years and encourages anyone who has a love of music to join. She’s looking forward to their upcoming concert “Love Rocks”.
Encouraged by a friend, she started playing a cornet again after 58 years and joined the KCC Wind Symphony 4 years ago. Joye says it just goes to show that anyone with a desire to reconnect with their inner musicianship can, no matter age or skill, bring enjoyment to themselves to others. Go for it!!!
