Updates from Village Hall

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis is having a devastating impact on local businesses, but you can take steps to help our Wilmette business community! Local shops and restaurants are open for business - whether virtually or through carry out options. Residents should think local and shop local to support our community.

All restaurants and bars in Illinois will be closed to the public through the end of the month, as directed by the Governor's Executive Order. The Village is working closely with Wilmette businesses and the Chamber of Commerce to provide assistance and support during this challenging time.

Residents can support local restaurants by ordering food delivery and picking up through drive-thru and curbside takeout. Some restaurants and bars are also providing pick-up/carry-out options for alcoholic beverages. View the Chamber of Commerce's Local Restaurant List to view all restaurants and check which ones offer curbside pick-up or delivery services.

In addition to supporting local restaurants, there are ways that you can help your other favorite small businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Purchase gift cards to use later (e.g. at your gym or yoga studio, purchase classes to use in the future)
  • Visit your local business websites and shop online
  • Register for virtual experiences or classes
You can also sign-up for the Wilmette Shop Local Mobile Program to get local deal alerts straight to your phone and check out the Chamber of Commerce's Shopping Directory to see a list of local businesses and restaurants.

Business Resources
The Village is also keenly aware of the impact COVID-19 is having on all businesses. The Village continues to monitor and share information and resources as they become available:
  • The U.S. Small Business Administration is working with state governors to provide targeted, low-interest loans to small businesses and non-profits that have been severely impacted by COVID-19.
  • The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is currently gathering information from small businesses are being negatively impacted. Please complete and submit the form available via this link. This will assist in the evaluation of a request for an economic injury disaster declaration from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
