Tree Equity & the Importance of Urban Trees
Within the last month, there has been a flurry of stories in the local and national press about the importance of urban trees. These stories highlight why we must address unequal access to tree canopy and nature in cities, and the origins of the disparity. We're thrilled that more light is being shed on this important subject addressed by Canopy programs and advocacy initiatives.
Catch this recent feature story by local ABC7 news. They travel throughout the Bay Area, comparing disparities in tree cover between communities and uncovering the reasons these inequities exist.
Be sure to watch until 3:48 when Canopy and the action we're taking in Midpeninsula communities such as East Palo Alto is mentioned!

Preparing Trees for the Heatwave
While you find ways to stay cool throughout summer heat waves, don't forget the most valuable and hard-to-replace elements of our urban landscapes - Trees! We need trees, and they need water.
As mentioned in the ABC7 feature above, heat-related deaths are a rising concern with increasing summertime temperatures. Finding ways to keep people cool, including by adding shade, can be the difference between life and death.
Learn how you can help trees survive drought and heatwaves and continue to benefit the health of your community:
