clp Citizens Litter Patrol - Take Action Against Litter Bugs

Be part of the solution and make a positive difference when witnessing cigarettes or trash tossed out of vehicles - join the Keep Golden Isles Beautiful Citizens Litter Patrol (CLP). 

We provide Citizens Litter Patrol cards to community members in an effort to curb littering. It's simple: after witnessing an auto littering infraction, safely complete a CLP card and return to us - the owner of the offending vehicle will receive a warning letter from local officials.

One Million Pollinator Garden Challenge - 
BEE part of something BIG!

It's e asy to make a big differ ence - accept
THE ONE MILLION POLLINATOR GARDEN CHALLENGE and plant gardens that attract pollinators or register the pollinator friendly garden you already have. 

 

The Challenge aims to reverse the decline of pollinating insects, such as honey bees and native bees, as well as monarch butterflies.

Non-traditional recycling methods offer Brunswick and Glynn County citizens even greater opportunities to recycle as much as possible and assist with landfill waste reduction.

Keep Golden Isles Beautiful now accepts the following non-traditional recycling streams by appointment:  oral care products /  beauty-personal care products /  chip-snack bags /  tape dispensers /  pens-highlighters-markers /  cereal bags /  solo cups /  drink pouches /  cigarette waste /  cleaner packaging

These collected items will be recycled via TerraCycle.

Girl Scout Designates City Storm Drains for Community Project

Working to achieve a Girl Scout Bronze Award, Chelsea Yates of Marshes of Glynn Girl Scout troop 30105 has partnered with KGIB and the City of Brunswick for a community project. Following City procedures, Chelsea is designating storm drains, not only assisting the City in this task but also bringing community awareness on the importance of keeping storm drains clean. Chelsea's project benefits animals, water quality, safety and our community. Thank you Chelsea! :)

KGIB Awarded Hello GoodBuy Community Grant for Youth Education

KGIB is grateful to be a recipient of a Hello GoodBuy 2nd quarter community grant. These funds will support KGIB's IS TRASH REALLY TRASH 3rd grade education program and annual School Recycling Challenge. THANK YOU Hello GoodBuy for helping us educate our community's youth!

THIS IS LITTER TOO Cigarette Litter Prevention - Summer Outreach

KGIB and project partner UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant have kicked off the Summer of 2017 with THIS IS LITTER TOO cigarette litter prevention outreach. Engaging and educating the public at two days of Beach Week, First Friday events and the St. Simons Island fishing pier is keeping staff and volunteers busy distributing info and pocket and car ashtrays. Plans for a second annual "coaster effort" in August will see 7,000 messaged drink coasters used at area restaurants and pubs on the same night. KGIB Unveils New Cigarette Litter Prevention Video
KGIB is proud to unveil our brand new short video targeting cigarette litter, the nation's number one most littered item. Made of cellulose acetate, a type of plastic, cigarette butts do no biodegrade and remain where thumped unless removed by a caring person or washed out to sea in a storm drain.

Community Greening: Senior Center Beautification Project



The Gathering Place summer youth program recently teamed with KGIB for an outdoor beautification project at the City of Brunswick's Roosevelt Harris Jr Senior Citizen's Center. TGP targeted the Center's back courtyard area and pulled vines, weeded flower beds, transplanted plants and planted ground cover.

Many thanks to TGP volunteers, Coastal Greenery (provided plants) and Golden Isles Wood Products (mulch).

Public Service Announcements and  Litter Radio Commercials

MANY THANKS to Brunswick City Mayor Cornell Harvey, Glynn County Commission Chairman Bill Brunson and Georgia State Representative Jeff Jones for lending their voices to the KGIB Leaders Against Litter radio public service announcements.

Cigarette Litter Prevention Awareness  on the Greens

Sea Palms Resort has teamed with KGIB as a pilot project in the THIS IS LITTER TOO cigarette litter prevention program.  
Sea Palms now includes TILT signage and cup ash trays in each golf cart to encourage golfers to properly dispose of cigarette litter while on the greens. 
 
Marsh's Edge Residents Recycle


Hat's off to Marsh's Edge Retirement Community - the St. Simons Island facility is now providing recycling opportunities for its residents! These folks are excited about recycling and reducing landfill waste.
