Meet our New Executive Director

Keep McIntosh Beautiful is happy to introduce Tracy Sanford as its new Executive Director. Tracy, who will be on the job July 17, couldn’t be more excited about getting started.

“I’m absolutely fired up about taking on this role with Keep McIntosh Beautiful,” she says. “It will be a joy to work with such dedicated people, organizations, and local businesses all striving to keep Darien and McIntosh County one of the best places to live, work, and visit.”

Georgia's Coast is Not an Ashtray

For the sixth consecutive year, Keep McIntosh Beautiful has joined entities in Georgia’s six coastal counties to continue a joint battle against the nation’s number one most littered item: cigarette butts.

Made of cellulose acetate, a type of plastic, cigarette butts do not easily biodegrade. Discarded butts have a negative impact as land litter, but once blown into storm drains or tossed directly into water sources, this toxic litter becomes marine debris, leaching chemicals into marine and aquatic environments and potentially being ingested by those inhabitants.

So far, the combined five-year effort has resulted in the placement of more than 600 cigarette waste receptacles. KMB will be making available again this summer both free-standing and pole-mounted receptacles.

New Recycling Guidelines, a Glass Recycling option and more..

The Dos and Don'ts have changed for what will be accepted by Waste Management through its curbside service in McIntosh County. We've posted what's ACCEPTABLE and NOT ACCEPTABLE in your yellow-top recycling bin now on the KMB website. CLICK HERE for the list and some recycling tips.

The biggest change is that GLASS IS NOT ALLOWED in your mixed recycling now. This is not entirely a bad thing, as glass breakage, which is common, can contaminate the other items in a truck's load - paper, cardboard, metal and plastics - making them all unfit to recycle. Collecting glass separately from other recyclables solves this problem. Until there's a convenient option for glass recycling glass in McIntosh County, there is another option - donating it to GlassWRX.
