We are so pleased to introduce you to Amrit Kaur, who joined BrightSpark on December 1 as our Early Learning Services Department Program Coordinator.

Here’s a bit about Amrit:

  • What did you do before coming to this role?
  • I was working as an HR/Recruiting Coordinator where I helped with onboarding, payroll, time & attendance, benefit enrollment, recruitment events, and hiring talent.
  • What are you looking forward to in this new role?
  • Meeting new people and making a difference in the community.
  • What do you like to do in your free time?
  • Listen to music and spending time with my kids and friends.
  • Anything else you would like to share?
  • I love going on nature walks and doing volunteer work.
  • How does working with community inspire you?
  • It brings meaning to my life. Its food for my soul.

I hope you have an opportunity to meet Amrit in person or on a Zoom in the very near future and get to experience her kind heart and enthusiasm.

How to Talk to Young Children About War

ZERO TO THREE is here to support you as you serve your community during this uncertain time.

During reports of military crisis, armed conflict and tragedy, early childhood professionals may find themselves with families directly impacted by the conflict through friends and family, service members in the family, or stress and fear from news of the violence.

ZERO TO THREE suggests these tips for parents and caregivers of babies and young children facing trauma. You can read these tips here.

KPL groups are uniquely poised to provide the participating families with information and support. Groups reach families who might not otherwise be connected to other support systems and you, the facilitators, represent a diversity of cultural and language groups and are considered trusted advisors by group participants. It is important that facilitators will provide information and support in culturally- and linguistically appropriate ways. Groups are also a source of social support and connection for parents and caregivers.

The KPL team would like to connect with facilitators on a monthly basis through KPL Convos and quarterly webinars where we will provide updates, build community, meet other facilitators, share relevant information, resources and ideas, and create a space for facilitators to learn from each other’s experience. We encourage our affiliate organizations to show flexibility and compensate facilitators for the time and effort they put into this online learning.

Emails will be sent out from the kpl@childcare.org email account for registration links. Please contact us if you are not receiving the emails.

We hope you can join us!

***Note for Best Starts for Kids (BSK) recipients in King County in WA State: Attending KPL webinars meets the requirement of participating in one KPL sponsored professional development event per year that is part of the BSK funding contract.
