AMA at USF, on a roll
A group of marketing students will head to New Orleans in March to participate in the American Marketing Association's Collegiate Case National Competition finals. The locals competed against students representing 320 schools from across the nation and ended up in the top 11. USF is the only university in the Southeast that will appear in the finals.

STUDENTS INVITED TO BRAINSTORM ABOUT RENEWABLE RESOURCES

Innovative ideas are being sought in a competition being undertaken by a pair of marketing students. The topic is sustainability and the search is on for ways to meet challenges of reducing ocean plastics and single-use-plastic bans. The competion is sponsored by Coca-Cola's World Without Waste recycling initiatve. Applications are available here or by emailing Renata Gomes Martins. BLOOMIN' BRANDS CEO DAVID DENO TO CHAT WITH THE DEAN

David Deno, CEO of Bloomin' Brands, which owns such eateries as Outback Steakhouse and Bonefish Grill, will be the guest at the Conversation with a CEO on March 11 at CAMLS, 124 S. FACULTY/STAFF NOTES
* Stacee Bender, academic services administrator in the Office of Graduate Studies, was recently appointed to the GRE Business School Advisory Council to provide expertise on specialized graduate business programs. The council is comprised of 12 to 15 appointed members who are admissions leaders from business schools around the world. Bender will serve a three-year term. The council, which includes representatives from universities such as Cornell, Penn State, Carnegie Mellon and others, meets twice a year at Princeton University.

* Cyndy Davis Sanberg, senior director for business engagement and internships, was named a senior member of the National Academy of Inventors. She has more than a decade of experience developing a stem cell product from umbilical cord blood for treatment of ALS and stroke. She also has established a cord blood stem cell bank at the USF Center of Excellence for Aging and Brain Repair. She holds seven U.S. patents.

* Shivendu Shivendu, a professor in the ISDS Department, is leading India's initiatives in blockchain as an adviser with the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology through India's National Institute of Smart Governance. He has been in this position since August and is proving instrumental in creating the national strategy for blockchain. He currently is working with the agency and the government to draft the next version of the document incorporating inputs from the consultation process on the first draft.

* Russell Clayton, an instructor in the Marketing Department, recently wrote an article that was published in Psychology Today. Titled "3 Keys to Employee Performance from Disney," the article stems from an interview Clayton had with Lee Cockerell, retired executive vice president of operations at the Walt Disney World Resort. * Diana Hechavarria, associate professor of entrepreneurship, was recently nominated to the executive board of the Junior League of Tampa as well as the advisory board of the Children's Home Society.

* Robert Tiller has been named director of the Personal Financial Planning program. Tiller, recently hired as instructor in the Finance Department, is a 2017 graduate of the Muma College of Business' Doctor of Business Administration program.

* Irene Hurst is now a student-development specialist with the Muma College of Business' Center for Analytics & Creativity where she will manage the Tableau initiatives for students. She will continue to run the graduate mentorship program.

* Kiran Garimella has joined the faculty as a visiting assistant professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department. He has a doctorate in artificial intelligence and machine learning and is an authority on blockchain technology.


ALUMNI NOTES

* Brian Lamb ('17, Executive MBA; '98, Accounting) received the Person of Vision Award from Preserve  Vision Florida at a recent event. Lamb is the executive vice president of Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati and is a member of the Florida Board of Governors, which oversees the state's public university system. He is a former chair of the USF Board of Trustees.

* Anson Angail ('14, Accounting) is now an associate manager at The Siegfried Group at Deer Valley in Park City, Utah. He is a former 25 Under 25 honoree and previously worked as an acquisitions analyst at Landeavor, a real estate development company in Tampa.

* Elizabeth Menendez ('84, Finance) has been named the 2020 president of the Florida Certified Commercial Investment Member Chapter of the West Coast District.

* Shauna-kay Campbell ('13, Management, Marketing) is now an assistant brand manager with Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati. She previously was the associate category brand marketing manager with Walmart.

* Dan Sidler ('11, Marketing) has been promoted to vice president of the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance. He previously was the alliance's director of communications and marketing.

* Jeremy Wing ('16, MBA; '12, Management, Information Systems) is now executive director of Foreign Exchange Product Management with JPMorgan Chase.

* Naomi Daniel ('17, International Business) has been named financial analyst with Lidi US, working in Washington. Previously, she served as a global finance and business management analyst with JPMorgan Chase.



* Feb. 17, 10 a.m. the Muma College of Business Open House welcomes potential incoming freshmen. Students will eat in the dining hall, experience a shortened versi on of a real college lecture from a business professor and interact with college faculty, staff, advisers and students.
