Strong Communities for Life
Staying in the Fight Against Covid
It’s Baltimore versus COVID, and CHAI is answering the call to help once again. After completing vaccine clinics for residents and staff at all fifteen senior living communities, CHAI is pleased to be hosting a community clinic in partnership with the Baltimore City Health Department, the Edward A. Myerberg Center, The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore and the IMAGE Center of Maryland. The clinic will be held tomorrow, Friday, May 7 at the Edward A. Myerberg Center. Pre-registration for this event is now closed. If you need assistance making an appointment for a vaccine in Baltimore City, please call the COVID Call Center at 443-984-8650. English and Spanish speaking attendants are available weekdays 8:30 a.m - 6:30 p.m.
Pimlico Community Advisory Work Begins
Last week, CHAI was happy to participate in the first official meeting of the Pimlico Redevelopment Advisory Board, convened pursuant to the Pimlico Redevelopment Community Compact, which CHAI helped create last year. The advisory board will ensure that the voices of neighborhood groups will be heard throughout the process of redeveloping the Pimlico property and will spotlight key areas of focus to enhance the quality of life in the surrounding neighborhoods. The group was joined by Delegate Samuel I. Rosenberg, representatives of Baltimore City, the Baltimore Development Corporation, the Maryland Stadium Authority and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. Mayor Brandon Scott plans to join the next advisory board meeting this evening.
Helping Seniors Stay Safe
at Home
For older adults living in aging homes, staying safe at home includes the need to address repairs and modifications on a limited income. CHAI’s Senior Home Repair and Benefits program allocates dollars annually to each client to address these issues. But when larger needs arise, this grant may not be enough. Fortunately, CHAI has other programs that can help. Recently, one client expressed the need to replace her home’s HVAC system in anticipation of the warmer months ahead. CHAI staff were able to help her obtain a CHAI Energy Savings Loan to replace the equipment, so she will be comfortable and safe year-round, with lower monthly bills.
CHAI is a Proud Partner
of AgeWell Baltimore
CHAI is proud to partner in the newly launched AgeWell Baltimore, a joint initiative of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore, CHAI, CHANA and Jewish Community Services. AgeWell allows for easy access to a network of resources, guidance and support for older adults and their caregivers. This new initiative features more than forty coordinated services and programs to help older adults age in community, with dignity and independence. A single call to 410-500-5328 affords access to many helpful programs and services.
