Strong Communities for Life
Welcome to the Neighborhood, Aventura at the Park
CHAI would like to extend a warm welcome to Aventura at the Park. Located immediately next door to the CHAI office on Park Heights Avenue, this 36-bed assisted living facility was formerly owned by CHAI and operated as Weinberg Park. Aventura Health Group, a long-time residential senior provider from Lakewood, NJ, purchased the facility on August 20, 2021. The team at Aventura is looking forward to getting to know the Baltimore community. They are currently scheduling tours and accepting applications for open units.

Community at the Heart of CHAI’s Affordable Housing
CHAI’s Weinberg Senior Living Communities are well known for providing quality affordable housing to independent seniors that supports their ability to age safely and successfully. What makes these apartments so special is the sense of camaraderie and community within the buildings. Weinberg House resident Sarah Gamble values the opportunities to participate in social and educational programs. She enjoys learning and serving others and has become known as “Volun-Tina,” a name she cleverly coined for herself. Ms. Gamble volunteers at the front desk and offers her time packing and distributing food to her neighbors. “It takes my mind off my ailments and makes me feel good. I like being with people and socializing—especially after the past year.”
Looking Forward to the
New School Year
This week, our neighborhood public schools welcomed students back for a new school year! CHAI is looking forward to supporting teachers, parents, and principals as they help students adapt to an altered in-person learning experience and for some students, see the inside of their schools for the first time. CHAI plans to be onsite for back-to-school events. Throughout the year, CHAI will provide support by engaging with teachers and principals, helping to find needed resources, and sharing information about school activities and successes. In addition, CHAI will continue to work closely with Parent Teacher Organizations to offer trainings and identify strategies to support their schools throughout the year.
Hybrid Bagel Bunch is a Huge Success!
On August 17, over thirty enthusiastic seniors came to the Edward A. Myerberg Center for coffee, a bagel and the chance to hear LaShelle Bynum present her work capturing the ‘ghost signs’ of Baltimore’s advertising past. Spirits were high, as this event marked the first time the group has met in person in over 16 months. The group enjoyed breakfast and conversation outside and then masked up to go into the remodeled multipurpose room for Ms. Bynum’s presentation. Like many of the Myerberg’s onsite offerings, this event was cast virtually to 50 participants who chose to join remotely. The Myerberg plans to continue utilizing this hybrid method to keep members both safe and connected.
Thank you to our Community Development team and many dedicated volunteers for a successful food distribution program. Since May 2020, we have delivered over 29,000 boxes at 93 distributions. It has been an honor to meet this important community need during a time of emergency.
