Thank You

Thank you very much to everyone who donated money to help fund the Christmas meal served to senior citizens living in Chelmsford Housing. The outpouring of donations was so generous. We were able to serve 62 meals to a very grateful population of people. In addition, they received holiday treats, beverages and the knowledge that people were thinking about them this holiday season. Big thanks to Artisan Catering Company (formerly Two Chefs) for their services in preparing the delicious food.
With gratitude, The Social Action/Social Justice Committee

The Board of Trustees want to extend special thanks to Cayla Maguire for chairing the Security Committee over the last year. This committee achieved quite a lot under her leadership. Liz Denly will step in as Acting Chair.

It is with gratitude to so many of you in our temple family for your generous donations to celebrate the birth of our grandson Cameron Hall Capland. Thank you so much for your kindness.
Wendy Capland
Reminder

As cases of coronavirus continue to rise in Massachusetts and within the Merrimack Valley, we continue to be diligent about who is in our building and when.

If you have a need to come into the building, please contact either Sandy Moore or Liz Denly to confirm this will be okay.

Thank you for your understanding.
Solar Panels
Solar Panel Update

Solar Panel Installation was a Success!

As you may know, Congregation Shalom has been evaluating the benefits of installing solar panels for the last two years. In June, 2020 a plan was approved at Annual Meeting. Over the past week, our solar system installation has had a successful start up with all panels verified to be operating. Congregation Shalom now has 80 panels manufactured by LG Corporation and installed by DeFreitas Enterprises.

Our solar system helps to save the environment.  Normal electricity generation consumes coal and natural gas, contributing to global warming. Our solar panels produce electricity with zero emissions. Installing this solar system also saves us money.  Electricity is a significant expense for the temple – over $7,000/year.  This solar system is designed to meet 100 percent of our yearly energy needs.  The expected first year energy production is 33,000 kWh. The aesthetics of our solar system are also neat and attractive on our building.

Special thank you to those folks who helped evaluate the various vendors from a technical perspective (Larry Cohen, Bob Blumstein, Gerry Miller); from a financial perspective (Cory Myers, Rosanne Riddick); and from a legal perspective (Stephen Rodman). Thanks also to Mitch Hyatt who greatly helped with the onsite construction logistics.

And Don't Forget...
Youth Scholarships

Throughout the year, there are many enriching Jewish experiences available to our youth through our synagogue or the community. These include, but aren't limited to, summer camps and trips to Washington, New York, and Israel. Fortunately, there is some scholarship money available through the temple to those families in need of financial assistance for these opportunities. Please contact Margie Berenson at
scholarship@congregationshalom.org with any questions and/or for an application form.
Grocery Cards

Grocery cards are available for Hannaford, Stop&Shop and Donelan's, and the Temple earns a 6% profit. This leads to thousands of dollars for our programs, with no extra out-of-pocket money from you. Contact Toby Sedgwick,
giftcards@congregationshalom.org to sign up for the monthly program, or to just get a few cards when you are doing a lot of shopping, and then start giving back to Congregation Shalom while you fill your fridge. You can have grocery cards sent to college students too!
Order Bookplates for our High Holiday Prayerbooks

The Mishkan Advisory Group is always pleased to accept bookplate orders at any time of the year. One set of bookplates costs $36.00. Since there are 2 bookplates, you do not have to have the same name on both plates. Use this LINK to obtain the order form. Please send the completed form and check (addressed to Congregation Shalom) to Laura Rodman at 35 Digital Drive # 201, Nashua, NH 03062.

This is a beautiful way to remember lifecycle events.
Caring Committee

The Caring Committee is always available to provide meals or transportation to those members and families who need a little help. Please don't hesitate to email Katie Wolman at caringchair@congregationshalom.org or Rabbi Perry at rabbi@congregationshalom.org, or feel free to call Katie at home.
Changed your address?

Notify us at emailchange@congregationshalom.org and we'll make sure all the right organizations at the Temple are informed. Please include your full name in your request.
