Adventures In Learning For All Ages
Our church school learning in faith returned Sunday September 18th. To register online, visit our website. The teachers, class assistants and I are so excited to begin this new year together.
This year we are trying something a little different with our middle and high school class. Students in grades 6th through 12th, will meet at Hall House with Becky Metzger from 9AM through 10AM and attend the 10AM service together as a group or choose to sit with their families. This is an amazing opportunity to discuss the readings and the sermons with the students and help them make a connection between their learning and what goes on during the church service.
At 9AM Su D’Ambrosio will meet with students in grades one through five who love to sing. This will fill in the gap until the start of church school at 9:30 AM, giving the younger learners an engaging activity from 9 to 10:30 AM. Our first rehearsal will be on Sunday, September 18th in the education office across from the nursery. Please contact Su D’Ambrosio at assunta999@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Blessings,
Donna Eby
Interim Sunday School Coordinator.

THIS WEEK’S BIBLE PASSAGE
| |
This week’s Bible passage is Philippians 2: 1-4. The theme is Christian behavior.
From the New International Version (NIV):
Therefore, if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
From The Message:
If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care — then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.
Some things for us to reflect on:
- Read each translation, then pause for a minute to consider the words. What do they mean to you?
- What sort of response does this passage instill in you?
- To what extent has Christ made a difference in your life?
- Sit quietly for a moment and ponder this: Do you feel a common sharing of the Spirit in our community? Why or why not? What can you do to promote the Spirit?
- I (Bill) was once discussing with friends what teamwork is. The thought came to me that true teamwork is conducted in an environment where all team members seek to optimize the contributions of others. Do you think we have this value in our Christian community? Why or why not?
- How can we come to understand the needs and interests of others?
Wishing you a blessed week!
Dee & Bill

Blessing of the Animals this Sunday! | |
|
We will have the blessing of the animals this Sunday September 25th at 10:00 AM. We always do this on the Sunday closest to the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi but we are doing it a week earlier this year because the following week is Stewardship kickoff weekend with a parish dinner on Sunday.
For those of you who want to join us on Sunday morning, please feel free to bring your furry friends if you believe that they will do well in community. If you would rather bring a picture instead, that will be just fine. Also, if there are beloved stuffed animals in your household that you would like to have blessed, please bring them along as well. The blessing of the animals is always a wonderful and unpredictable service but what a great thing to be able to share our worship experience with these cherished members of our families.

Notes from the Vestry meeting of September 14, 2022
Please note that ALL vestry meeting minutes are posted on the bulletin board outside our parish office following their approval at the subsequent vestry meeting.
Doug Harper, our search consultant, met with us. He explained how the vestry is involved with the search process. Once the search committee has been formed, Doug will be present at all committee meetings to offer assistance and direction as necessary.
Vestry is grateful that services are continuing with considerable help from Deacon James and the Rev Harry Birkenhead.
Pledge income has gotten a bit behind. Vestry encourages all of us to keep up with our pledges. Thank you!
The capital campaign has begun. Vestry noted appreciation to the capital campaign committee for their efforts. Please consider supporting this campaign. All support matters!
The Thrift Shoppe reorganization is going very well and is becoming a model for Christian community. Former helpers are returning and additional people are volunteering, some from outside our parish.
Dorothy Greene brought information on Worthy Village, a nonprofit organization that is working in rural Guatamala providing clean drinking water, teaching health and hygiene in schools, and running a family sponsorship program. The organization also runs a medical clinic. John Steele’s daughter works for them. To support, please go to https://worthyvillage.org/.
Donna Eby noted that Sunday School is ready to resume and that there will be rolling registrations.
Our fall church routine is beginning. Special thanks to all ministry leaders and participants.
The next regular vestry meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 12th.

The newly formed Wood Harbor Orchestra makes their first public performance at this concert, under the direction of Elijah Langille, conductor. The ensemble includes professional musicians along with students from local music schools. Wood Harbor Orchestra is dedicated to the performance of works by local composers, focused on underrepresented groups in classical music, including women, people of color, and those in the LGBTQIA+ community.
The concert program also features several of Burckardt’s other orchestral and vocal works, with solo performing artists, including Ciarán Nagle, tenor vocalist, Diana Fischer, piano, Lily Marie Antonini, mezzo soprano, Alex Meisner, alto saxophone, and Rachel Burckardt, piano and guitar.
Tickets to “Mount Auburn, Requiem in d minor” are general admission $25, students and seniors $8.50, preferred seating $50, available on EventBrite, or at the door. Sponsor donation options range from $100 – $1000. Reduced-rate parking for $14 is available at The Hynes Auditorium Garage (located at 50 Dalton Street between Bukowski Tavern and Summer Shack). To obtain the discount, ask a concert greeter for a chaser ticket which can be used at the garage’s exit gate machine. Alternate paid parking is available at the Prudential garage. The church building is fully accessible by elevator at both the street level entrance on Belvidere Street, and at the entrance on the corner of St. Cecilia and Scotia Streets.

Dear Friends of the Cathedral,
The Very Rev. Amy McCreath
and the
Cathedral Campaign Committee
cordially request the pleasure of your company at a reception
inaugurating the
“A House of Prayer for all People- In All Seasons”
Capital Campaign
Replacing failing HVAC systems and installing lifts in office buildings is not glamorous, but it is essential for our staff and visitors and in order to welcome new programs and non-profit organizations into the space. Adding the capacity for zoned, efficient air-conditioning to the sanctuary and Sproat Hall on increasingly long and hot summer days opens up countless possibilities for hosting diocesan, civic, and arts events and allowing those without other places to stay cool a life-giving welcome.
To learn more about our campaign or to attend an informational reception, please visit our website: https://www.stpaulboston.org/capital-campaign-2022
All are welcome!
