Keeping Connected

Dear Ones of Christ Church,

Below please find an update about our annual pledge campaign, Plenty Good Room. Thank you, thank you to all who give to support the care and ministry of Christ Church. Together, we seek and serve Christ, and as members of the Body of Christ, all of our gifts are needed, honored, and blessed. I am deeply heartened by the many ways we at Christ Church have made good room to meet Jesus in this autumn season. We have gathered around his presence in Holy Communion, at campfires and by Evensong candlelight, at potluck and brunch feasts, at the baptismal font, and at apple pie-making tables. We have made good room for Jesus as we provided a “thank you” take-out chili meal to our neighbors, threw a church school All Saints’ party, and prayed and engaged deeply with the Psalms in our October adult education series. And we continue to make good room for the hospitality, nourishment, and shelter of Jesus through our parish food pantry, parish thrift shoppe, and the overnights of hospitality. Our pledges of financial and volunteer support are making and continue to make room for Christ’s light to shine brightly here at Christ Church and in the wider Plymouth community. Thank you!

Yours in Christ,

Melissa+

An Update from the Resource Committee

As of last Sunday (November 1st), we have received 56 pledges for a total of $168,535. With two weeks left in our “formal” season of pledging, we are over halfway to our goal of $300k. Thank you to all who have pledged, and thank you to all who are prayerfully discerning a pledge!

  • We ask that you return your pledge card by November 13th by mailing it to the church, giving it to David Tyler in the office, or by placing it in the collection basket during worship. No gift is too small, and no gift is too large.
  • Pledging by November 13th helps our treasurer, finance committee, and vestry to budget appropriately for the coming year. And, if you need more time to discern your pledge, please know that you can pledge at any time.
  • If you need a new pledge card, you can find them by the entrances to the sanctuary or in the church office.
  • You can also use the Realm app to make a pledge and keep track of your contributions. To set up a Realm account go to the Church website and click on the Member Portal Tab located at the top of the main page. Once you have created a Realm account you can download the app to your mobile device. You can also access the application directly from your web browser if you do not want to use the application on your cell phone.

Pew Removal: It Has Happened!

In late summer, parish leadership shared our vestry-approved plan to create more space at the front of our sanctuary by removing one row of pews (one pew bench on each side). With thanks to our team of staff and volunteers, the pews have been removed, maintaining the front half-pews on each side as seating for folks with walkers and wheelchairs. You will notice that some of the concrete floor has been exposed—this is temporary. New carpeting will be installed soon to cover the exposed concrete. The removed pews have a new home and purpose as seating in the choir room and in the hallway area between the main office and Rev. Melissa's office.

As we continue to all worship at the floor level, this change will improve accessibility, flow, and visibility, bringing us closer together with the presence of Jesus in Word, Sacrament, and one another. As we experienced last weekend at the Sunday 10a service for All Saints' Day, on high feast days and other services like Baptisms and large funerals, we will celebrate Communion from the high altar. As needed, we will add chairs to the sanctuary to regain the seating from the removed pews.

Christ Church Food Pantry

Every year the Christ Church Food Pantry has had the opportunity to provide 110 Thanksgiving dinners for members of our community who suffer from food insecurity. With the assistance from the Christ Church parishioners and donations from the community we are happy to again be providing bags of meal preparations to those in need. If you would like to contribute to this year’s efforts, we could use the following items to place in bags provided to us. Cash donations are always welcome.

Cans of cranberry sauce

Canned vegetables

Turkey stuffing mix

1/2 gallon (64 fl oz) apple juice

Turkey gravy (preferably in jars)

Crackers

Thank you so much for holding our efforts in your thoughts and prayers,

The Christ Church Food Pantry Leadership Team

Grief Support Group

Are you dreading the upcoming holiday season because of a recent loss or painful memories? Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s are major occasions for families to gather and celebrate. It can be difficult to join in when you are mourning. Together we can express our true feelings and look for alternative ways to experience the special days ahead.

Because of the Thanksgiving parade we will be meeting this month ONLY on Friday, November 20th at 1:00pm in the Hospitality Room.

Notes from the Vestry Meeting of October 21, 2026

Please note that all Vestry meeting minutes are posted on the bulletin board outside the parish office following approval at the subsequent Vestry meeting. Electronic copies are available by request through the church office.

At its October meeting, the Vestry:

  • Approved an updated Vestry norm clarifying voice and voting privileges during meetings.
  • Continued discussion of a potential capital campaign following the October 7 meeting with Brian Raiche, development consultant for our diocese. Next steps, should the vestry decide to move forward, include developing a comprehensive list of building needs, obtaining cost estimates—particularly for the roof—and considering firms to assist with campaign planning. No decision was made to launch a campaign or begin a feasibility study.
  • Reviewed the financial outlook for 2026 and 2027. Although Thrift Shop revenue is projected to exceed budget, rising expenses and regular giving below budget contribute to projected operating deficits. The Vestry discussed the need to address these shortfalls through increased giving and revenue, careful consideration of expenses, and a parish-wide financial presentation to be planned for early December.
  • Reviewed the progress of the annual pledge campaign, with gratitude for all who have given to the campaign. At the time of the October meeting, approximately $86,000 had been pledged by 30 households. Parishioners are encouraged to prayerfully consider their support of Christ Church and its ministries.
  • Voted not to continue the practice of annual commemorative memorial plaques at this time. The vote was taken after three months of discernment and discussion.
  • Discussed building maintenance and repairs, including the removal of a damaged tree near the double doors by the bathrooms. The Vestry supported removing the tree. Updates on ramp and paving work were also discussed.
  • Received an update from the Nominating Committee, which is scheduled to meet Sunday, November 15, at 11:30 a.m. Vestry members are encouraged to speak with parishioners who may be interested in serving.
