Rector's Reflection

While Rev. Melissa is away, here are some ecumenical resources for prayer and spiritual reflection to explore:

Brother Give us a Word - a daily monastic practice to nourish your spirit

Pray as you Go - a daily prayer and meditation podcast

d365 : Devotions 365 days a year - daily devotions that invite us to Pause, Listen, Think, Pray, Go

Daily Reflections: Coffee with Sister Vassa - brief, deeply prayerful and theological reflections on scripture

Finances

Last week we received in over $10,301. When giving online, be sure to change the 'Fund' to 'Pledges' so your contribution goes toward your pledge.

Thank you for your loving support of Christ Church.

Last Deposit 2024 - Gentle reminder that your final payment for the year of 2024 needs to be in to the church by 12/30/24 so that it counts for this year. Donna Lawrence will be making the deposit on 12/30/24 in the late afternoon so that it gets into the bank on time for 2024.

If you have any questions please contact Donna Lawrence at 508-243-2293 or donnamL21@comcast.net

Church School News

Church School Schedule: December 29 there is NO Church School.

Resources for Families in Church: Just a reminder that there are activities for kids, including a small table and chairs, in the back of the church. We are also providing special bulletins for kids that are aligned with the week's lessons at the front and back entrances. These bulletins have a variety of coloring, brain teasers, puzzles, and other fun activities. For students in grades PreK-1, Su will be available in the nursery to monitor young students who need a separate space during the church service. We hope that these resources will support family attendance at the 10 am service. Please let us know if you have any other ideas for ways to welcome children and families at Christ Church: education@christchurchplymouth.org

Church School Registration: Registration for Church School is open throughout the year. Click the registration form link to sign up or email education@christchurchplymouth.org for more information. Church School Registration Form

A Note to Parents and Caregivers with Children in Church

Thank you for bringing your children to church. We are so glad you are here!

We know it can be difficult at times to manage little ones during the service.

For that reason, we have provided some resources which we hope will make it easier for you and your family to enjoy worship together.

You will find books and coloring pages at the back of the Mary Chapel. Please feel free to utilize these at any point during the service.

We have installed a TV in the nursery! You are welcome to visit the nursery with your child during any portion of our service and join us via our livestream.

It is okay to take breaks. If you need to step out with your child, our parish grounds are a great place to get the wiggles out.

Above all, please remember: You and your family are very welcome here!

Your children may be squirming, talking, or making noise, but they are also observing, copying, and learning. Children are a gift and an important part of our community; we are grateful to have them worship with us.

Adult Sunday School! Sundays, 9 to 9:45a

While Rev. Melissa is away, adult church school will still meet every Sunday, using "Dwelling in the Word," a form of facilitated group listening and sharing centered on one of the weekend's lectionary readings.

Join us in the parish hall or hospitality suite for a time of wondering, discussion, listening, fellowship, prayer, and sharing. No sign up or registration is necessary. Come as you are. Come for one week or every week. There will be coffee (or bring your own!).

Notes from the Vestry meeting of December 11, 2024

Please note that ALL vestry meeting minutes are posted on the bulletin board outside our parish office following their approval at the subsequent vestry meeting.

  • Vestry endorsed Invite, Welcome, Connect as guiding principles for our parish.  This has been passed on to the Resource Committee for planning and implementation.
  • The Building & Ground’s committee had a successful workday on 12/7. The fall yard cleanup was accomplished in 3 hours with 16 volunteers present.
  • The nominating process is under way. A note was sent to parish members explaining the process. Elections will be held at our annual meeting on February 2, 2025.
  • Treasurer’s report:
  • NOTE: The 2024 budget has projected revenues of $360,000, and projected expenses of $437,000, a deficit of $67,000.   In June, vestry voted to withdraw additional funds from our investments each month to enable us to pay our bills.
  • Expenses are staying within projections.
  • 2025 pledges are good to date, but we are still about 25% below our target.
  • Vestry was provided a preliminary draft of the 2025 budget. In January, vestry will approve the budget.
  • The Audit report is complete. We are addressing minor improvements requested by the auditor.
  • We approved a housing allowance for our rector.
  • Our solar connection to the church building remains in limbo due to issues cited by the town electrical inspector.
  • Christ Church Food Pantry had another successful Thanksgiving distribution, providing the ingredients for holiday dinners to 100 Plymouth-area individuals and families.
  • The Thrift Shoppe reported brisk sales in November with proceeds of $7k.
  • A motion was approved for the Thrift Shop to donate $2500.00 to Hope Floats Healing & Wellness Center, in Kingston.
  • Kat reported that Stained Glass Prints will be available soon. Vestry discussed how best to present them in the church building.

The next regular vestry meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 6:30pm in the Hospitality room.

Cookbook Update

We still have a long ways to go before we can submit our recipes for publishing. The good news is that we still have plenty of time without any stress. Please drop off your recipes to the office when possible or submit recipes through the website.

During these next few weeks please look at your wonderful recipes you might be using for your holiday meal preparations.

Please take a moment or two and share them on the website for our parish cookbook project.
