Adventures In Learning For All Ages

Many thanks to the Christ Church community for a wonderful, and wonderfully challenging, church school year. What a gift to gather together to share prayers, activities, and stories - adults and children alike!

May your summer be peaceful and blessed. See you in the Fall.

I consider my three years leading the education program at Christ Church a true blessing. I am so grateful for everyone who participated in the many programs for parishioners of all ages. I leave with every confidence that the future will bring wonderful educational opportunities. Your next director will bring new ideas, fostering the spiritual lives of Christ Church in his or her own unique way. He or she will be blessed to work with you. Peace, Johnna

Message from Fr. Dave

As many of you know, Christ Church Parish has been a part of a group of parishes and schools that has had a relationship with the Masakane Trust in South Africa since 2014. Together, we spent years raising money to make two different trips over there and bring a group over here to show them how early childhood development works in our country. It has been a wonderful relationship for those of us who have been involved. So, it is with a great deal of sadness that I let you know that the churches and schools who have supported our South African mission for the past 8 years have made the decision to end our relationship with them. Given the pandemic, we have struggled to stay in touch in a meaningful way with our friends in South Africa and the prospect of making trips back and forth is now much less likely given the changes the pandemic has brought to our world. As a group we made the decision to take the last of the money that we had raised and send it off to help them with their ongoing expenses. The diocese has now wired that check.

I have enclosed here the letter from Masakane thanking us for our support over the years. I want to thank the members of this parish who were involved with this mission. Please continue to pray for our South African friends as they struggle with COVID and the political interruptions that have made life there quite difficult. Most importantly, please pray for the children who are being served by this important mission.

Creation Care

Driving electric and hybrid cars is certainly on the rise, yet the majority of cars driven today still require filling  the tank with gasoline. The trick is to make your car burn fuel as efficiently as possible. Here is a refresher on ways to save on gas and help the environment at the same time:

  1. Drive with your windows UP. Driving with the windows down makes the car's fuel efficiency drop. Cars are no longer streamlined to cut through the air and will require more work from the engine to maintain the same speed as if the windows are up. Keeping the windows up reduces drag. This tip is particularly useful when driving the expressway.
  2. Air conditioning requires a large amount of fuel in order to work. Air conditioning will work as efficiently if you use the re-circulate button or turn the A/C on and off periodically instead of leaving it on.
  3. Fuel efficiency declines as the weight of the vehicle increases. Decluttering your car of just 50 pounds of "stuff" can increase your gas efficiency by 2%; while that doesn't seem like much, it does add up.
  4. Regular servicing is essential for optimum operation of the vehicle , but also for the environment. Properly maintained vehicles can achieve up to 30% better fuel economy. in addition, regular servicing can reduce harmful emissions (pollutants) by up to 50%.
  5. Observing the speed limit is one of the best ways to save fuel. We may not reach our destination faster, but we will get there.

Summer Fun…and Hazards

We hope you are safely enjoying wonderful summer activities and weather in good health!

Just a reminder that Covid is still around. Proper handwashing, social distancing and adequate rest should continue to be maintained by all.

*Remember to use sunscreen and wear sunglasses to avoid burns.

*When taking walks, be aware of uneven paths to avoid falls.

*With summer heat, remember to stay hydrated.

*Do tick checks after walking or playing in tall grasses.

*Avoid bee stings and mosquito bites.

*Swim with a buddy and play safely at the beach.

Happy Summer! From your Parish Nurses.
