August is a month of heat, a month of continued growth, and a month where summer plans that have been cultivating for the past few months finally evolve to their fullest form. KRLT has been cultivating our program Find Your Flock, designed to connect seniors in Pierce and St. Croix County with nature to combat feelings of loneliness and social isolation. Through guided hikes and nature-based programs, participants have the opportunity to not only connect with nature but also to strengthen connections within their community. Goldenrod begins to bloom, monarchs glide through meadows on their migration path, and cicadas hum a steady rhythm that signals the approaching shift into fall; reminders that change is in motion, and there’s beauty in each phase of the season.
Our nature-based programs reflect topics related to summer phenology and the essence that the season brings. Activities like “Pot Your Own Plant”, “Birding and Bingo”, “Nature Journaling”, and “Fossil Exploration” have sparked engagement, curiosity, and the excitement that comes with learning a new skill. Programs create meaningful conversations and foster new friendships, offering participants a chance to share memories, knowledge, and laughter in a welcoming outdoor setting. As we move through the heart of summer, KRLT remains committed to nurturing these connections, reminding us all that it’s never too late to find your flock.
Happen to see something interesting during your next walk along the trails? We want to see! Send a picture to me at Jane@kinniriver.org for a chance to have your story highlighted on social media or next month's e-newsletter.
