A Note from Our CEO

Earlier this month, I had the privilege of hosting our annual Volunteer Celebration. From our humble beginnings in 1982, a singular driving force that has always been present in our House is our core of spirited volunteers. With more than 350 serving the organization today, our volunteers are the ones families will remember most when they think about their time with us. Our annual Volunteer Celebration only scratches the surface of the gratitude we have for these dedicated individuals, and I welcome you, our House friends and partners, to share a thank you with each volunteer you encounter. From helping guests check in, to offering a supportive shoulder to cry on, our volunteers truly are the heart of our House.

Helping Families Across the State

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana is grateful for the generous support of the John W. Anderson Foundation in Valparaiso, Indiana. For more than 15 years, the Foundation has provided grant funding that helps cover a portion of the costs incurred by families from Lake and Porter counties that stay at the Ronald McDonald House. On average, 118 families from Lake and Porter counties utilize the services of the Ronald McDonald House every year while their child receives treatment at an Indianapolis-area hospital. With the help of the John W. Anderson Foundation, we can continue to provide the basic needs of shelter and meals for families from Lake and Porter counties.

Volunteer Celebration

This past Friday, our team got together to host our intrepid volunteers at our annual volunteer celebration dinner. Special congratulations to our three Lori Kleiman Award recipients – the highest honor for volunteers at the House – Donis Kendrick, Steph Mabe, and Cristina Pretorius. Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers who celebrated annual milestones in their time with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana.

Hi fur-riends!

Even though I love caring for families at the Ronald McDonald House, I do enjoy a chance to get out of the “office” for a bit and spread cheer around town. A few weeks ago, I went to see my friends at DEFENDERS. They have sponsored my care for over three years now. Their support keeps me well fed and cared for so that I can pay it forward and help care for the families visiting with us. Thanks, DEFENDERS, for being such a great corporate partner.

Fast Fact

The first ever Ronald McDonald House, opened in Philadelphia, was funded largely by the sales of Shamrock Shakes during a week-long promotion by McDonald's advertising agency and restaurant owner/operators.
