As I come to the end of my year I have noticed that as the pressure is ramping up to get everything done before Christmas, my discipline to maintain a healthy lifestyle wains.  The exercise goes down; the food consumption goes up!  The irony is that when I need my energy the most, I am doing the least to maintain it and am feeling a little weary these days.

But I know I am not alone.  Not one person I come into contact with these days are any different to me.  By the time we get to Christmas, we are exhausted.  We need that break just to replenish our cells.

There is evidence that we have a finite amount of will power (The Will Power Instinct,  Kelly McGonigal) and it tends to run out toward the end of the day (that might be why it is so hard to resist that white chocolate and rasberry muffin chocolate at 3pm).  I argue that it is the same across a year.  We start out totally switched on and even fired up at the beginning of the year after Christmas.  We power on through the year until we hit around the half way mark - around June - July - and then start fizzling out.  In the southern parts of Australia it does not help that we are probably vitamin D deficient.  For many, by November they are getting close to burnout and really should have had a holiday or a small replenishing break way before then.

This coming year, I am doing it differently.  I plan to take a break in June to recharge and recalibrate my life course.  And I plan to go to Thailand or Bali with a small group of exceptional people who are on the same path as me.  If that's you, then contact me.  You will be hearing more about this little adventure over the coming months as I work out what amazing, rejuvenating things to do.  I would love your ideas on what you do to recharge, recalibrate and rejuvenate, and any suggestions for beautiful, exotic locations.
