Volunteers Brighten Lives!
Keeping In Touch, Volume 10
Greetings!

Tutor ID Number:

Good Morning Tutors!

As we continue to pivot to new ways of tutoring, we recognize that there is no substitute for in-person learning. We know you have been doing your best to maintain your connection with your student as much as possible. This week’s issue of Keeping in Touch focuses on health literacy and related issues.

We have seen both volunteers and learners experiencing such high levels of stress that they cannot focus on their daily life. Jobs on the line, kids home from school, and bills unpaid all contribute to a distracting world where nothing is predictable. Being positive, supportive, and motivating right now may be the most important thing we can do. We hope that you are being patient and understanding with yourself as well.

Do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need help with tutoring strategies during this time. Be well and take care.

With gratitude and hope,

Carol Garcia

DuPage County Resources:

DuPage County has an established safety net in place for medical care- for insured and uninsured – regardless of legal status or income. Access to medical care is available to everyone. No one should hesitate to seek medical attention. Click here for an informational summary regarding key takeaways from a DuPage Federation webinar last week for social service providers regarding access to testing, treatment, and recovery – responding to disparities in rates of infection and mortality.
Additional COVID-19 Resources:

  • If you need up-to-date information about psychological help during the pandemic, go to the American Psychological Association, apa.org/topics/covid-19. This site has continually updated information about telehealth policies in all 50 states and how to access and/or help people who are struggling with mental health issues during the pandemic.

Peer Tutor Mentor Meetings are going virtual!

We had an overwhelming response to host a virtual Peer Tutor Mentor Meeting from our survey. Thank you to all who participated.

We are working out the details for a date in early June.  Watch Keeping In Touch for more details.
