Good Morning Tutors!

Today, June 20, 2020, marks the Summer Solstice, the official start of summer. As our lives develop new routines and rhythms, we hope you are anticipating a pleasurable and fulfilling enjoyment of the season. We continue to appreciate your dedication to your student and Literacy DuPage and know that you are making a difference in the lives of your student and their family.

This is the fourteenth volume of our weekly tutor newsletter, Keeping In Touch. We are evaluating the interest and need to continue producing a weekly edition. Please complete the following brief survey regarding the newsletter, so we can best serve you and your needs.

Do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need help with tutoring strategies during this time. Be well and take care.

With gratitude and hope,

Carol Garcia

Catholic Charities:

Catholic Charities provides comprehensive services to needy individuals and families. Those in need can call Catholic Charities DuPage County, 630-495-8008. Messages will be returned within 48-72 hours due to call volume. Their offices are closed to the public, but they will schedule appointments to bring paperwork out to the parking lot.

  • Housing: They are offering alternative funding for rental assistance through their organization. Some requests for assistance must be directly tied to COVID-19. Catholic Charities can also help those in need by seeking resources through their partners.
  • Hope House: is a Catholic Charity run shelter in Villa Park and is currently installing PVC barriers and establishing social distancing protocols with the goal of starting to relocate people back to the shelter beginning July 1st.
  • Emergency Services/Support: food vouchers (Immigration status does NOT matter), clothing vouchers, diapers, transportation passes

Post-Testing Students
  • We have finalized our process for post-testing students, and staff will be reaching out to students directly about scheduling a test. We are offering students the opportunity to meet in a park while observing social distancing practices, or meet with a staff person via ZOOM or What’sApp. Your student will be asked to sign a release of liability waiver if they want to meet in-person in the park with the staff.

In-Person Tutoring
  • You will receive more information soon about the go-ahead to begin meeting in-person with your student again. Watch for the details.
