Keeping In Touch, Volume 20
Greetings!

Tutor ID Number:

Greetings Tutors! We want our students to not only develop their skills and become proficient in English but also be able to understand, participate, and navigate a variety of activities involving the community, health, work, and government.

This Keeping In Touch edition will focus on the November election. We want to encourage and support our students to increase their knowledge about elections, candidates and issues, the voting process, and if eligible, to register and vote in the election.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need help with tutoring strategies during this time. Be well and take care.

With gratitude and hope,

Carol Garcia

Literacy DuPage Happenings:

In-Service Workshops
Are you unfamiliar with ZOOM or WhatsApp? Come to the October In-service Workshops to learn the basics about each platform. Specific information about the sessions will be coming tomorrow.

Post-Testing
Remember that your student should be post-tested after every 30-35 hours of tutoring time. Contact Carol Garcia to schedule a virtual or in-person session. Both tutor and student can be included in the assessment process virtually if desired.
Tips from an LDP Tutor:

Tutor Liz S. shared the following tutor tip:

Similar/Different
Make a list of pairs of nouns, verbs, adjectives, or adverbs that have some things in common but are different in other ways. Examples: coffee/tea, horse/zebra, talk/sing, sailboat/submarine. You can read each pair out loud, or the student can read them. Have the student describe what is similar and what is different about each pair.

*Please email Carol Garcia if you would like to share any tutoring tips with the rest of the LDP Tutor Family!
LDP Book Club:

It has been suggested that Literacy DuPage consider offering a virtual book club for tutors. If you are interested in joining or would like more information, please email Carol Garcia.

If there is a positive response to this suggestion, we will organize the club and share those details with all of you as our plan develops.
