Keeping In Touch, Volume 3
Greetings!

Tutor ID Number:

We’re so grateful for all your efforts to stay in touch with your learner. Without your hard work, your student may feel alone and find it difficult to practice their skills during this time of isolation.

We know this is a concerning and stressful time. We hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

Wishing you well,

Carol Garcia

Tips for Providing Instruction from a Distance:

We know you cannot duplicate the face-to-face learning experience you have previously used to work with your student. Tele-tutoring or remote tutoring enables tutors and students to continue their work together and provides support. We recommend:

  • Develop a routine agenda so that your student can anticipate how the session will typically progress and know what to expect
  • Keep your tutoring session short (15 -45 minutes)
  • More than that per session may be overwhelming
  • A bite-sized session lets you stay in touch and build community. We want your student to feel connected and part of the LDP community although separated physically
  • Focus on making session student-centered – follow their lead
  • Practice and review previously learned material rather than hard tutoring with new material, unless your student specifically requests it

If you need help with how to best work with your student, let me know. Don’t feel stressed. I can help you. Please contact me at [email protected] for help.
How have you been staying staying in touch with your learner?

If you have not completed our brief survey, please take a moment to do so. The results will be compiled and shared with you in the next several weeks.

During this time, when face-to-face tutoring is suspended, we are interested in learning if you and your learner are working remotely. And if you are, how are you doing it?   Please take this short 5 question survey .

Spread the word - we are going virtual!
We are currently offering webinar Meet & Greet sessions and are in the process of developing a virtual tutor training, which we are lightheartedly calling QuaranTrain , for late April.

If you know someone who is looking for something to do during this time or has expressed interest, please let them know we are offering these virtual options.

Social distancing is an excellent time for remote Meet & Greet and training sessions. When we are back up and running, new tutors can begin immediately!
