Volume 43 | September 4, 2021
This issue is all about 9/11 & the autumnal equinox.
Greetings, Tutors!

With September 11, 2021, approaching, we mark the passage of two decades since that day changed our lives forever. This issue of Keeping In Touch provides powerful and evocative resources to mark the 20th anniversary of this tragic event. These resources are rich with information but also patriotic. We want our learners to understand the magnitude of these events from their cultural perspectives.

Those of us who lived through 9/11 remember where we were when we got the news, what we did, how we felt. And we are aware that the impact of September 11 goes far beyond the thousands of tragic deaths that occurred that day. The attacks have had far-reaching consequences. In short, the 9/11 attacks have changed the course of history.

It's that time of the year again when our daylight hours become shorter. If you crave cooler days and nights, the changing color of leaves, and wearing warm fuzzy sweaters, you don't have long to wait! This year, the Autumn Equinox is on September 22, 2021. Many of us recognize this time to welcome the change of seasons with traditional celebrations, symbols, and festivities. And with that comes plenty of activities you can do with your student.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need help with tutoring strategies during this time. Be well and take care.

With gratitude and hope,

Tutor Engagement

  • Tutoring Reminder: As we post-test learners a follow-up letter is emailed to the assigned tutors which shares the results of their student’s test, offers tutor support, and requests that tutors update and electronically return an attached Achievement/Goals Form. Literacy DuPage is required to report to its funders aggregated learner testing data, achievements/goals, and tutoring hours.  In addition to post-testing, follow-up tutors will also receive a quarterly request to report hours and provide an update regarding tutoring status. Your attention to these requests is critical to compliance with grants and funders. Thank you in advance for your responsiveness!
  • We want to hear from YOU! Email Carol your ideas, questions, or opportunities you would like to share with other tutors. Your contribution may be featured in an upcoming issue!
