Referral Services:

It can be challenging to adjust to this new way of life. Students with limited contacts may be isolated, unaware of community resources, and laid off from low-wage jobs, perhaps in hospitality or food services. Even if they hold on to employment, they may not be able to work due to a lack of childcare for their home-bound children. They may lose health insurance and unable to cover healthcare costs. They may not be able to pay rent or feed their household.

We can want to support students and provide information about critical community resources to address unmet needs or challenges.  Below are several useful websites for community resources.  Check with an organization directly to confirm how to access their services during this time

Additional Referral Services

  • NAMI - Providing support for social and emotional health concerns. During COVID-19, all services are provided online. Find more information at: http://namidupage.org/resources/support-groups/.
  • Prairie State Legal Services (PSLS) - staff continue to provide free legal help to low-income people during the crisis, including legal advice by phone. PSLS provides services in any language via bilingual staff or with the help of interpreters. Find more information here.
  • Highpoint Church Care Center - serving the community throughout the week to meet basic needs. They have partnered with different organizations to offer a food pantry as well as provide household toiletries. They are providing these services from their brick and mortar buildings and also have a mobile service throughout the area. For more details, click https://www.highpoint.church/care/.
