Riding Waves & Redefining Risk: Andrew’s BIA Journey

Growing up in the laid-back beach town of Encinitas, Andrew developed a passion for surfing and community that still shapes who he is today. His professional ride began nearly 14 years ago, helping build a thriving San Diego book of business for a small Temecula-based insurance agency. In 2016, the agency joined Acrisure, giving him the chance to scale up and tap into powerful resources across Southern California.

In 2022, Andrew teamed up with Marc Kaplan, diving deep into the construction world with laser focus. Guided by Marc’s mentorship, Andrew has since become a dedicated voice in construction insurance, committed to ensuring that insurance never stands in the way of businesses and serving their communities.

Through his active membership in the Building Industry Association (BIA) of San Diego, Andrew quickly became a key player. He sits on the board for both the Specialty Contractors Council (SCC) and Y/Gen, proudly chairing the SCC’s Educational Subcommittee, and the Membership Committee for Y|Gen. His mission is to educate, empower, and connect the rising stars of the BIA while supporting the contractors who literally build the homes we live in.

You’ll regularly find Andrew at BIA’s biggest events—from Installation Dinners and Meet the Builder to ICON Awards, Y|GEN events, and Open for Construction seminars. His superpower? Building authentic friendships and trusted partnerships that extend far beyond the BIA walls.

Networking wasn’t always second nature, but Andrew’s story proves that stepping outside your comfort zone leads to growth and that the BIA community is always ready to welcome you in.

When he isn’t navigating the wild waves of the insurance market, you’ll catch him out in the real waves—pushing his surfing limits, chasing beach days with his wife, and raising two incredible sons.

Three words to know him by: Caring. Authentic. Reliable.

And you can always count on Andrew and his team at Acrisure to be there—whether you need insurance solutions or just a solid, trusted connection.

If you haven’t met Andrew Becht yet, make it a point to seek him out, introduce yourself and let’s make it a point to try and make our BIA family even stronger!

Build Your Future In Construction

Council & Committee Corner

Highlights from September Meetings

Specialty Contractors Council (SCC): Adam Hammill, ALIVE Solar & Roofing, was our Member Spotlight. He did a great job answering our questions about the current state of the solar industry and how regulation changes are impacting Solar in California. Dave Ashley, National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), also spoke and shared the benefits that San Diego BIA members receive from NAHB.

Sales & Marketing Council (SMC): The SMC is ending the year on a high note — we finalized plans for our festive Seasonal Celebration, complete with theme, games, and prizes! We also explored exciting membership opportunities and pricing for 2026. We’re focusing on building connection, creativity, and value for all our members.

Young Generation of Leaders Council (y|GEN): The yGEN board met to recap our September Community Tour and discuss the End of the Year Party in November. The board also started planning for 2026!

Build SD PAC: We have a membership drive underway until 10/24 with the prize being a lunch with Paul Barnes, Shea Homes, or Steve Ruffner, KB Home.

Membership Committee: We discussed current membership growth, the liaison program and the overall membership experience. The group is committed to the success of our new members. The Membership Committee is the heartbeat of the association.

Responsible Accessory Dwelling Committee (RADU): Working to put together the structure and sub-committees to create a highly functional ADU committee. Please attend the October meeting to learn more about each sub-committee and how to get involved.

Communications Committee: The group covered the Podcast and upcoming episodes, how to increase member engagement, and social media.

BIA Cares: We wrapped up the Trap shoot event, which was again-a huge success; the school back-pack distribution went very well thanks to the BIA membership’s donations. BIA Cares is accepting scholarship applications from students and will be kicking off the annual Holiday Bike Drive at Builders and Brewers in October. BIA Cares is also looking for new members to join our board for the coming year.

Journey Tribute Concert Raises Spirits and Support

On Thursday, September 11th Home Fed, Lennar, KB Home and the California Homebuilding Foundation held their 4th Annual “Music for a Cause” fundraising concert featuring the #1 Journey Tribute band in the USA-E5C4P3-The Journey Tribute.

If you missed this show, you missed a lot. This band sounds like the original Journey line-up from the early to mid 1980’s. What a show! Based on the audience participation before the show the top 2 (based on applause) band choices for next year were

Van Halen or Queen.

The California Homebuilding Foundation would like to thank the BIA member companies (too numerous to name here—but you know who you are) who purchased sponsorships and we are grateful for your support. We are especially thankful for the help of BIA staff and leadership who help us make this a killer event each year.
