County of San Diego: District 1 Runoff Election
Beginning this week, voters from San Ysidro, Chula Vista, Golden Hill, parts of Spring Valley, and elsewhere, will have the opportunity to vote for the next San Diego County District 1 Supervisor. The County of San Diego will hold a runoff election featuring two candidates: Chula Vista Mayor John McCann and Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre. Voters in District 1 will have an opportunity to vote between June 2nd and July 1st.
The BIA has endorsed Mayor John McCann, a longtime supporter of housing, to represent our South County communities and help to create more homes county residents can afford.
If you live in the district or have a friends, family, or colleagues that live in District 1, we encourage you to get out and vote! Please share this message with your networks.

Builder Member Spotlight
Sean F. Kilkenny is a Partner at Nolen Communities; a North County developer focused on creating highly-amenitized communities. Sean's background encompasses expertise in planning and community development, entitlements and project management.
Sean’s work history includes experience in overseeing project execution and coordinating resources. Sean served as a Project Manager at Dudek, focusing on CEQA compliance for residential, mixed-use, industrial education, and master plan projects.
Prior to this, Sean was the Director, Forward Planning at Davidson Communities, a leading residential builder. In this capacity, he contributed to land acquisition, strategic planning and land development within the residential construction sector.
Sean's academic background includes a Master of Business Administration from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin
Current projects by Nolen Communities include Fox Point Farms, Sunshine Gardens, Piraeus Point, The Summit in Encinitas, and The Arbors in Fallbrook.
Sean has jumped right into the BIA San Diego and is now on the BIA Board of Directors, Build SD Pac Board, and the County Legislative Committee.

The Veteran-Turned-Visionary Behind Specialized Security Corporation
A lifelong Southern Californian, Dane Stordahl’s journey is built on a foundation of service, grit, and strategic thinking. From the front lines of the U.S. Marine Corps to the streets as a police officer—and now at the helm of a cutting-edge security company—Dane has spent his life protecting others and leading from the front.
After enlisting in the Marine Corps in 2004 and completing two combat deployments overseas, Dane transitioned to a 13-year career in law enforcement. But in 2020, he traded his badge for a new mission: reimagining security in the property management
and construction space. At the heart of Dane’s company is 24/7 remote CCTV monitoring, enhanced by live guards and full-service security support. But what truly sets Specialized Security apart is its integration of real-time tech with human judgment—delivering rapid, proactive responses when it matters most.
Dane’s not just a business owner—he’s a presence in the community. As an active member of the Building Industry Association and the Membership Committee, he’s often seen at events across San Diego, building relationships and identifying new ways to support developers, property managers, and builders. His goal? Help industry partners think about security not as an afterthought, but as a crucial part of the planning process.
