August 27, 2020
Dear Parents,

It has been great to have the students back on campus and to hear the campus come alive with their familiar sounds and spirit. At the end of this week, we will have successfully attended classes for 10 full days. As I mentioned in Upper School Updates, students are adapting to the necessary routines of washing hands or using hand sanitizer, wearing their masks and keeping their distance at school. All of these will be necessary in order for us to continue to be physically together as a community while we are dealing with the realities of COVID-19.

While hand washing, masks and social distance are three absolute musts, there is also more that we can do. We can all contribute to keeping our community safe by considering the decisions we make outside of school. Goal 5 calls upon all of us to show concern for others and engage in responsible decision making; during the pandemic that calls upon all of us to make some adjustments and think about how our choices impact others.

Specifically, below are a few decisions we all can make:
  • Avoid social gatherings for the short term
  • Consider getting takeout instead of going to a restaurant
  • Stay home when not feeling well
  • Quarantine, if you have been in close contact with an infected individual

If all of us make a few small modifications, we can keep the entire community together and safe. Making a commitment to care for and about each other will have lasting impacts for all.

We have been continuously examining all of our practices on campus to make sure that we are doing everything that we can do to keep the community safe; while at the same time, allowing students to enjoy the experience of being together. For this reason, we will be changing our rainy-day lunch plans, moving students into alternate areas that allow them to safely interact with their peers.

I ask that you continue to reach out to me to provide suggestions and ask questions. The pandemic has changed many aspects of our lives. The newness of all of it can be confusing, but working together as a community we will continue to find success.

Sincerely,

Julie Boyd
Upper School Division Head
