Keeping Tabor Village Vibrant
Dear Tabor Village Family and Friends:
Celebrating Easter
We've already started celebrating Easter around the Village and are looking forward to continuing the celebration over the long weekend. It's been a joy to see more activity around our Village, seeing residents eat together, and seeing families reunited... a happy Easter indeed!

As we head into this weekend, we start with honouring Good Friday. It's a somber day as we remember the incredible sacrifice Jesus made for us. He suffered physical and emotional abuse, mockery, humiliation, and ultimately death - the price meant for us, He took on Himself.

"But he was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed." - Isaiah 53:5

Yet after all of this, He rose again three days later beating death and darkness and bringing hope and light back to us all. He died so we could live. We're so thankful to serve a Living God who knows and cares for each and every one of us with His sacrificial, unconditional, and overwhelming love.

"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?'" - John 11:25-26

Happy Easter friends and family!

Your Voice – Speak Your Mind
We want to hear from you. As an organization we know there is room for improvement. One of the ways to improve customer service is to hear from you directly. To listen to your feedback and to make enhancements to how we do things. As a first step in this process Tabor Village has opened up web portals for family surveys.

For family members, surveys are being conducted at move in, care conferences and end of life as well as general satisfaction with the experience of your family member living at Tabor Village. Other surveys and forums are being enhanced to ensure there are many ways for your voice to be heard including the voice of older persons living at Tabor Village.

Let’s Keep Tabor Village Vibrant
With an increase in variants of concern and in rising case levels in the community of COVID-19 there is a bigger risk of outbreaks in aged care communities. Tabor Village will not be immune to the impacts of the current wave of the pandemic. Let’s do everything we can to reduce the risk of the virus spreading.

You have made tremendous sacrifices over the past year. You have followed B.C. public health officials advisories and orders to ensure the chain of spread is broken to protect older persons. While the vaccine roll out has provided hope, there continues to be significant risk for older persons who test positive.

This week, staff and family members have reached out to request that Tabor Village do more to protect older adults who live at Tabor Village and to protect healthcare workers who provide them loving quality care and essential quality of life support. As we open up Tabor Village to increased visitation, there is an additional risk for the virus to enter our Village. Social connection has never been more important especially after what you have experienced during the pandemic.

Tabor Village was founded on the belief of serving others. Part of this value is a collective responsibility to ensure ourselves, our family and friends remain safe. On behalf of Tabor Village, we are encouraging you to make the choice of staying safe and putting others interests ahead of ourselves. Please follow all public health orders and advisories especially limiting non-essential activities.

One of the blessings in the Spring is warmer weather and longer daylight hours giving us more opportunity to be outside with the same small number of people within your safe bubble. In Dr. Bonnie Henry’s words “Fewer Faces Bigger Spaces”

As we continue to thank you, the healthcare heroes on the frontline of this pandemic, we also continue to acknowledge the hardships residents and families have endured. Unfortunately, as much as we had hoped 2021 would bring about the new normal, we pray for the months ahead to bring relief from the restrictions on our freedoms that are currently necessary to protect those in our community who are most vulnerable to severe illness from the virus. With a deep amount of appreciation and admiration for your commitment and dedication.

Vaccinations
Family members and staff are appealing to members of Tabor Village who have yet to be vaccinated to roll up their sleeves and take the vaccine.

It is not mandatory for healthcare workers in B.C. to be vaccinated, nor is it mandatory for people living in long term care and assisted living or for visitors. An increase in the percentage of vaccinated staff, residents/tenants and visitors is needed to keep those we love and care for safe.

If you have not yet been vaccinated, please consider signing up and taking the vaccine. Let’s do our part to ensure the lives of older persons, their families and friends are protected along with essential healthcare workers.

Looking ahead
The pandemic has caused significant grief and loss by families, friends and staff members who have lost loved ones over the past year. Some people who contracted the virus continue to experience health challenges. The social isolation we have experienced has been profound. Tabor Village will continue focusing on managing the risks of the pandemic, enhancing safety while balancing quality of life and independence. Together we will bring about the kind of future that transforms the ageing journey.
Message of Hope with Pastor Ray
Easter 2021 – Right on Time!

In a conversation with a friend I said, “Easter is early this year.” The friend smiled and said, “Easter will come right on time!” Easter always occurs on the first Sunday following the first full moon of Spring, which was on March 28 this year. So, Easter 2021 is Sunday, April 4 – right on time!

With the past year and all the disappointments of cancelled trips, postponed weddings, minimal celebrations, we need the revitalizing good news of the Easter Message more than ever – Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. He is Risen! Why is that good news? Why isn’t it just some historical footnote?

C.S. Lewis said, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”

The central, historical fact of the Christian faith is that God raised Christ from the dead. Eyewitnesses testified to it, lives were radically changed, and our world has never been the same since that Easter Son-Rise. And in His risen light, we see everything in our lives differently. This is the good news of Easter. Because He lives, so too can we.

One of the original Christian creeds simply says, “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, he was buried, he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4.

Easter comes right on time each year with the message of forgiveness, renewal, and the promise of eternal life in Jesus. After all the death, darkness and sadness of this year’s pandemic, Easter 2021 comes right on time for new life in Christ.

Right on time for me and you.
