2020 Land Use Plan The Town of Cornelius Planning Department is updating the Town's Land Use plan, and we want your feedback!

What is a Land Use Plan?  A land use plan is a document designed to guide the future development of a town. It presents a vision for the future with long-range goals and objectives, and includes guidance on how to make decisions on land development proposals, and sets the stage for how the town will grow in the future. While providing a common framework to balance community interests, the plan is a means to protect public investment and valued resources by fostering a sense of place and encouraging economic development.

Why an update?  Our current Land Use Plan document was last updated in 2014. Since then, the population in Cornelius has grown by 12.6% -- from 28,540 in 2014, to 32,144 in 2019. Because we are a growing town with valuable resources, a Land Use Plan update is necessary to help plan for the future.   How can you get involved?  Are you a resident, business owner, property owner, developer, or other stakeholder in Cornelius? Your feedback is important as we review and update the current plan. Be on the lookout for upcoming surveys and stakeholder engagement opportunities to share your thoughts. In the meantime, please submit any questions or feedback for our consideration to our Planning Department. Your voice is one of the most valuable resources of all. We look forward to your input as we update our plan.

LEAF COLLECTION CONTINUES Thanks for your patience during our busy months

As our leaf collection service continues, please remember that the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are our busiest. Our crews are working as fast as they can to service all Cornelius residents. You can track their location on our website to see how close they are to your neighborhood. Please continue to rake your leaves into a pile with no limbs or trash, and be patient as our crews work their routes. Don't forget that Waste Pro will also collect up to 20 bags of leaves on your normal pick up day.

DID YOU KNOW? Cornelius is one of the few towns in the state that offers a leaf vacuum service. Our Public Works Department vacuums and disposes of enough leaves to fill up the Catawba Avenue Starbucks - from floor to ceiling - three times each week! It's unbe-LEAF-able! Why do we do it? Because that's the Cornelius Way!

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Share your thoughts on the FY22 budget

As a reminder, our annual budget process is gearing up. The Town's budget establishes our spending and priorities for each fiscal year, which begins July 1 and ends June 30. Critical to this process is input from you - the individuals who live in our Town. We want your feedback as we decide what programs, services, and priorities to focus on, like public transportation and public safety, for example. Please complete this short survey; it should take no more than five minutes of your time. Paper copies of the survey are also available at Town Hall. Thank you in advance for your feedback!
