Our Coffee Chats are Back! Virtual Connecting Cornelius: August 3, 2020

Join us Monday, August 3, at 8:30 a.m. for our next virtual coffee chat. Mayor Washam will host the session via Zoom and will be joined by members of the Board and Town staff. Special guest Mecklenburg County Public Health Director Gibbie Harris will provide an update on COVID-19. Town Manager Andrew Grant and staff will share highlights from the newly approved budget and discuss the Town's efforts to review and enhance its law enforcement policies. We'll conclude the meeting with an update on the new Cain Center for the Arts facility from Cain Center Executive Director Justin Dionne . Community Conversations: A Quest for Equity Save the Date: Thursday, August 20

In response to the outcry of pain across our nation, we invite all in the community to join us for a virtual conversation on social and racial equity in our community. On Thursday, August 20, a panel of elected and Town officials, as well as community and faith leaders, will openly discuss inequities in our community, and how all citizens can help turn the tide. We hope this dialogue will lend itself to greater mutual understanding and promote peaceful relationships with people of all backgrounds. The general public is invited to view this discussion and submit questions in advance for the panelists to address during the conversation. Simply RSVP below and you will be prompted to submit your question or comment. Additional information, including how to join the meeting and a full list of panelists, will be provided in the coming days. We look forward to seeing you there!

HAVE YOU COMPLETED YOUR CENSUS? There's still time! The new deadline is October 31

Thanks to all who have completed the 2020 Census so far! As of July 13, Mecklenburg County's overall response rate was 61.4% , and the response rate in Cornelius was 69.6% . Remember that every person matters! Data from the census helps the Town receive federal funding for the next ten years that goes toward education, transportation, and healthcare. New Sidewalks & Streets A peek at what's new in our Town

We're excited to provide an update on two projects our Public Works team has been leading:

We installed a new sidewalk on Walter Henderson Road to increase safety. The sidewalk connects Walter Henderson Park to Bethel Church Road and is now available for pedestrians.

Nannie Potts Lane is projected to be complete by the end of August. The new road, named after the Town's first female and only African American mayor, will connect Highway 21 to Smith Circle.
