Harper's Choice Showcases Original Columbia Artists

Sunday, August 13, 2017, 7:30pm
John Levering and Wes Yamaka, popular Columbia artists in the 1970s, turned to art after other careers personifying Columbia's goal to be a place for people to grow.
They opened Columbia's first art gallery and studio called "Eye of the Camel" in the 1970s. As our way of celebrating Columbia's 50th birthday, the Art Gala will feature original works by both artists and will kickoff with a champagne reception and light refreshments.

Art work needed. To loan art for the event, contact Steve Ingley by July 15th @ 410-730-0770 or manager@harperschoice.org.
Juneteenth Celebration

Celebrate Juneteenth on Saturday, June 17, 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Historic Oakland (5430 Vantage Point Rd). This event is free to the public with free snacks, Museum tours, exhibits, lectures/presentations, vendors, and entertainment. At the conclusion of the family activities, the celebration continues with an adult cocktail dance party. Tickets are $75/per person.

The reception kicks off from 6:00-7:30 p.m., followed by a dance party from 8:00-11:00 p.m. featuring the sounds of the Palovations, the sensational Baltimore singing group that thrilled the audience last year with their versions of Motown and R and B hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s. If you like to dance and "party with a purpose," you won't want to miss this!

Visit the event website for more information and to purchase your tickets.

Covenant Corner

We continue to receive calls and emails about pet waste and pet owners not following the Howard County Animal Control Laws. This includes the Open Space along the CA pathways. Be a responsible dog owner and pick up your dog's waste - it's the law.
All animal owners in Columbia are subject to the Howard County Animal Control Laws. Here are a few summarized requirements under Section 17.300 of the Howard County Animal Control Law:

· A pet must be on a leash and under the control of a responsible person when not on an owner's property. This person must be capable of immediate and effective restraint.
· Owners are responsible for immediately removing pet defecation when off their own property.
· Owners are responsible for preventing their dogs from barking to the extent that it disturbs neighbors.

Residents who have concerns about animal behavior or the care and control of animals are urged to call Animal Control for more information: 410-313-2780.
