The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, better known as MCA, is a Community Government, which is elected by the residents of the Mohawk Community of Akwesasne. Every three years, four (4) Chiefs are elected from each of the three districts within Akwesasne: Kawehno:ke (Cornwall Island), Kana:takon (St. Regis) and Tsi:Snaihne (Snye).

So this week, I’m getting acclimated to office life once more as we had our first ever Small Business Leadership Conference, hosted by the Tri Chamber Alliance at the
Akwesasne Mohawk Casino
. It was two days of seamless networking between three regions, education to improve current business techniques, and so much more. Despite having bad weather our first day and having surrounding areas cancel school, we still had a large number of participants show up for both days.

This week at the Chamber of Commerce, we are gearing up for our Small Business Leadership Conference to take place tomorrow, Wednesday, March 14th and Thursday, March 15th at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. Among other duties, my day has consisted of adding stickers adorned with our logo on to over 100 measuring tapes for our giveaway bags to conference goers.

I’m going to start off with the fact that we here now at the Chamber have converted from Quickbooks Desktop to Quickbooks Online in an effort to track our banking activity in a more efficient manner. What we thought would be a seamless effort, turned out to be, not one, not two, not even three, but a seven hour hold time of trying to get our payroll set up among other things.
