A Good Read – Sally Read’s “Night’s Bright Darkness” & “Annunciation”
Author Sally Read has become a friend this past year. She is an Englishwoman, living in Italy with her husband and daughter, and who had a remarkable conversion from a dark atheism to bright faith. “Night’s Bright Darkness” is the story of her conversion and the role prayer, Eucharist, Saints, and the deep teachings of the Church played in it. She followed that up with “Annunciation: A Call to Faith in a Broken World,” a book length “letter” to her young daughter beginning on the eve of her First Communion. The Blessed Mother’s “Yes” is the template for this reflection on holding on to faith in an often unwelcoming world. I highly recommend both books which can be found at Amazon and elsewhere. First Communion and Confirmation at St. Mary’s
This weekend we’re finishing up with our 5th, 6th, and 7th First Communions and gearing up for quite a few Confirmation Services in May. Please keep these young recipients of these sacraments in your prayers, that God’s gracious work in them will become deeply rooted in them.
