According to a Pew Research Center study, these are the top reasons people don't attend church: 1) they practice their faith in "other ways", 2) they are not believers, 3) no reason is "very important", 4) they haven't found a house of worship they like, 5) they don't like the sermons, 6) they don't feel welcome, 7) they don't have the time, 8) poor health or mobility, 9) no house of worship in their area.
Community Congregational UCC (379 S Main St, Amherst) will host their annual Rummage Sale on Friday, September 14 from 9AM-3PM and Saturday, September 15 from 9AM-1PM. In addition to a collection of unique items, baked goods and homemade soups will be available for sale. Come rain or shine! Plenty of free parking.
You are invited to the Ohio Conference Annual Gathering Friday, September 28-Saturday, September 29 at Westerville Community UCC (770 County Line Rd, Westerville).The Ohio UCC works to provide opportunities for churches to connect with one another, to organizations in their community working toward transformation, and to ministries around the world. Join the work of the conference and begin to consider what the future of the United Church of Christ might look like in this region.

All authorized ministers are invited to attend Healthy Practices for Ministry: Cultural Competence on Wednesday, October 17, 9AM, at Zion UCC (415 S Min St, North Canton). In our increasingly diverse and pluralistic world developing cultural competence, being aware of another's cultural norms, helps us connect and relate to another with respect and humanity. The event is only $35 (free for pastors who retired from ministry) with an optional lunch for $10. Every person engaged in active authorized ministry is required to complete a Healthy Practices for Ministry every two years.

Appreciative Inquiry (AI). You've heard about it, wondered if it would work in your setting, or thought I'm too busy. Here is a day when you can learn the how-tos and whys of AI. On Monday, October 29 learn: what is Appreciative Inquiry and how it can help congregations; identify your congregation's assets, gifts and strengths; how to shift language from identifying the problems to identifying the strengths; develop a process of AI for your congregation.

After a 60 year musical ministry career, Music Director and Organist Barb Perine retired from Community Congregational UCC on September 9. Barb started her career playing piano for worship services at just eight years old. Over her career, Barb played at a Billy Graham crusade and for various worship services. Barb is wished much happiness in her retirement.

The Community Engagement Prophetic Witness Team announces the availability of grants to local congregations who are involved in their communities through mission work as they embody Christ to the larger community around them.

Each issue stands alone as a topic of interest and importance to being a living and growing congregation.
