Campbell Chapel's News

"We spend far too much time in worship to be as sick as we are, as poor as we are, and to have our families as divided as they are. It is Campbell Chapel's mission to change that reality!

* THE DOXOLOGY*…“ Praise God”... Hymn # 647

*THE CALL TO DIVINE WORSHIP

Minister: I was glad when they said to me, let us go

 into the house of the Lord, our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.

People:    For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Minister: Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek thy good.

People:    Those that be planted in the house of the

 Lord, shall flourish in the courts of our God.

Minister: Blessed are they that dwell in thy house. Lord, I have loved thy habitation, the place where thy honor dwelleth.

People:    For the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him.

Minister: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight. O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

People:    O sing unto the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth, sing praises.

*Opening Hymn - #196 Sweet, Sweet Spirit

1. There’s a sweet, sweet Spirit in this place,

And I know that it's the Spirit of the Lord;

There are sweet expressions on each face,

And I know they feel the presence of the Lord.

Refrain:

Sweet Holy Spirit, Sweet heavenly Dove,

Stay right here with us, filling us with Your love.

And for these blessings we lift our hearts in praise;

Without a doubt we'll know that we have been revived,

When we shall leave this place.

2. There are blessings you cannot receive

Till you know Him in His fullness and believe;

You're the one to profit when you say,

"I am going to walk with Jesus all the way."

Refrain

3. If you say He saved you from your sin,

Now you're weak, you're bound and cannot enter in,

You can make it right if you will yield,

You'll enjoy the Holy Spirit that we feel.

Refrain

Hello,

I want to share information about Sacred Ground, a social justice-oriented program that was developed by the Episcopal Church and invite your participation.

Sacred Ground was originally designed as an in-house curriculum for Episcopalians, however, the program is now open to members of any faith group. (There are no costs involved.)

I will be facilitating the 11-session program which will run from October 2024 - March 2025 with an introductory session scheduled for the end of September (We will take time off during the holidays).

This is not a series of lectures. It is a structured, interactive curriculum that consists of readings, videos, activities, and discussions, and requires the participants prepare for each session (i.e. do homework before each session😱).

The sessions are designed to be small (8-10 participants) and run for 2+ hours.

Although the program was designed for a white audience, I want to diversify the participants, if possible, because I believe that would deepen the experience and make it more meaningful for everyone. Too often, these conversations happen in mono-cultural settings and amount to little more than talking in an echo chamber.

I'm committed to Sacred Ground because it creates a 'safe space' to have those 'courageous' conversations about race and bias etc. that continue to shred the fabric of our democracy. Moreover, I consider this program a powerful opportunity for community-building.

The Sacred Ground program will take place at the Community Church of Hilton Head Island (CCHHI) in their Community Center. The church is located at 860 William Hilton Parkway, HHI, SC 29928 (it is next to the Hargray building). Their number is 843 806-3399.

Each week, there will be readings and videos for homework. I will provide a curriculum book which includes most of the readings and supplementary materials you will need to complete the Sacred Ground program. In addition, the Episcopal Church makes curricular materials available on-line.

The Community Church of Hilton Head Island (CCHHI)  has agreed to make copies of the Sacred Ground curriculum booklet for each of you, and I will make these materials available to you at the introductory meeting in September.

There are two books which are used throughout the program. They are: Waking Up White (Debby Irving) and Jesus and the Disinherited (Howard Thurman). Random chapters of Waking Up White are assigned, and those readings will be available to you either in the packet or on-line. However, I encourage you to purchase and read Jesus and the Disinherited.

We will be meeting twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 9:30AM - 12:00PM. Although I’ve reserved a 3-hour time block for the space, I expect our meeting to be about 2+ hours with a 9:30 start time. I will arrive at 9:00 to set-up.

Here is the Sacred Ground 2024-2025 schedule based on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month:
