COVID-19 Vaccines for Children
ELCA Families,

As you have probably already heard, the US FDA has expanded the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in children aged 12-15. The FDA has determined that the vaccine has met the statutory criteria, and that the known and potential benefits of this vaccine outweigh the known and potential risks, supporting the vaccine’s use in this population. From March 1, 2020 through April 30, 2021, approximately 1.5 million COVID-19 cases in individuals 11 to 17 years of age have been reported to the CDC. Children and adolescents generally have a milder COVID-19 disease course as compared to adults. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has issued a new policy statement that recommends vaccinating all children ages 12 and older who are eligible.

The FDA has updated the Fact Sheet for Recipients and Caregivers with information to reflect the use of the vaccine in the adolescent population, including the benefits and risks of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. The Pfizer Vaccine is administered as a series of two doses, three weeks apart, the same dosage and dosing regimen for 16 years of age and older.

Georgia eligibility is now open for everyone 12 years of age and older for the COVID vaccine. Some pediatricians are administering COVID-19 vaccines within their practice, while others are coordinating with public health departments and other places to make sure their patients have access to the vaccine. Be sure to let your pediatrician know if your child is vaccinated somewhere other than the doctor’s office so the medical record can be updated. For information on sites that offer the Pfizer vaccine, please visit the Georgia Department of Health Vaccination Site.

Investment Club
Although the Investment Club is facilitated by Mrs. Melody Allred, it was actually sparked by the students and is student led. The group is comprised of approximately 10 seniors (each of them being 18 years old).  It began with several students coming to Mrs. Allred's class each day to discuss the “market” and other economic issues in the news. After a while, the group grew and a group chat was created to share info and stock market videos. The students then asked to make it “formal” and actually have a designated meeting time. The group met one day a week during IF. Although, most days, these students could be found in Mrs. Allred's IF session discussing stocks.
Although not required, most of the students began trading stocks with $100 seed money. A few students are investing in crypto, a few in foreign money, but the majority are researching and buying/selling stocks. During meetings, each student takes a turn “presenting” information they have learned or are learning. Kelli Hazel, CPA and Financial Planner, was a recent guest speaker who was invited to come and speak on the basics of investing.
Diversity Showcase Winners
Thank you to everyone who submitted artwork, an essay, or a poem for ELCA's Inaugural Diversity Showcase. • 2nd place: Laila Hill (K5)
  • 3rd place: Archana Ganesan (2nd grade)

Lunch & Learn
with ELCA Alumnus, Stephen Blackburn
On March 24th, ELCA Alumnus Stephen Blackburn (Class of 2016) spoke to a group of male sophomore and junior students about lessons in leadership from his own experiences, from being Student Council President at ELCA to being an Associate in Morgan Stanley's Equity Research Department covering power, utilities, and clean tech companies. Some of the advice he shared is that leaders are courageous, demand excellence, have discipline, and above all embodies the trait of character. Highlighting Proverbs 22:1, he shared that leaders do the right thing even when no one is watching. Thank you Stephen for sharing your wisdom, pitfalls, and lessons in navigating the real world by relying on hard work and your faith to reach success. Thank you to Insee Thai and SGA's Student Life for sponsoring the food for the luncheon!
What Does Diversity Mean to You?
For ELCA's 4th Annual GRACE Week, sponsored by the Student Diversity Council and the Director of Diversity, Grace Lee, we asked students, parents, and staff to answer the questions, "What does diversity mean to you? How do you celebrate diversity?"
There is Room for You!
Join the Parent Diversity Council!
Are you a parent or guardian at ELCA who wants to help create strategies to improve diversity initiatives for our school community? Some of our values as a council are to celebrate our differences as it says in Revelation 7:9, bear each other's burdens and find unity in Christ. If you are interested in joining the Parent Diversity Council for the 2021-2022 school year, please contact ELCA's Director of Diversity Grace Lee at grace.lee@eagleslanding.org

Exploring God's Creation
Seven chicken eggs were recently placed into an incubator in Mrs. Vicky’s office. The Preschool classes learned all about chickens and eagerly awaited the day the chicks would hatch. Each class came to the office to see the eggs in the incubator and even got to see inside the eggs by a process called “candling”. It was exciting to learn that baby chicks were growing inside the eggs! Then 21 days later it happened...7 baby chicks hatched!! The preschoolers got to see them hatch and even got to hold and pet a baby chick! The seven baby chicks are now on their way back to the farm. It was a great learning experience!
High school students traveled to Ashland, KY to work with SEND Relief which is an organization that helps rural families stop the cycle of poverty and serves as a crisis response mobilization point for the Appalachia tri-state area of Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. They were also able to do a spelunking along the way.
Many of our ELCA 8th graders enjoyed a 4-day educational trip to Washington D.C. just before spring break. The highlights included walking tours of the National Mall and Tidal Basin as well as visits to Gettysburg, Mt. Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, the Museum of the Bible, and the Spy Museum.
We can't wait to see the stories
from the 2021-2022 trips!

Strawn & Co. Insurance
Most Valuable Golfer Award
Bo Shuler, a sophomore on the Eagles Landing Christian Academy Golf Team, was awarded the 14th Annual Strawn & Co. Insurance Most Valuable Golfer Award by Rusty Strawn (former McDonough Christian Academy golf team member) for the 2021 Golf Season.

The award is named in memory of Dr. Paul E. Davis (former Headmaster & Golf Coach at McDonough Christian Academy) and is awarded to the most outstanding golfer of the year. The criteria include low scoring average and outstanding character and integrity on and off the golf course. The recipient of the award each year is awarded a $1,000 scholarship by Strawn & Co., Insurance. Congratulations, Bo and the Shuler family!

ELCA's goal is to have 100% family participation in our ELCA Fund each year. It's not too late to participate! This is a year-long campaign that continues through June 30, 2021. Every gift counts and...It's GREAT to be ALL IN!
A Gift that Costs You Nothing

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a remarkable impact on deserving Georgia families and the overall financial health of your school community, all while receiving a 100% Georgia income tax credit for your contribution. It's a WIN-WIN-WIN!

Important information for business owners:
Final IRS regulations provide that a payment made by a pass-through business to a charity (such as an SSO for a designated private school) may qualify for an ordinary and necessary business expense deduction, even where the owners receive a state income tax credit for the payment. See HERE for examples of federal tax benefit, which is $3,500 for a $10,000 contribution under certain circumstances.
