The landmark Darien Playhouse at 1077 Boston Post Road is being repurposed into a mixed-use commercial property. The building, which was built in 1927, will house retail shops on the first floor and four spacious apartments on the second floor. To retain the historical character of the building, the marquee for the theater will remain.

TECH NEWS:

Ultra-Light Foamed Glass Aggregates (UL-FGA)

We recently learned of an alternative building material called Ultra-Light Foamed Glass Aggregates (UL-FGA) that can be used as a lightweight alternative to crushed stone aggregates.

UL-FGA are ultra-lightweight aggregates produced from 100% post-consumer recycled glass. Foamed glass aggregate is approximately 85% lighter than typical backfill and can be used to limit the surcharge over soft compressible soils or underground utilities.

Typical applications include green roofs, plaza decks, embankments, retaining walls, foundation walls, and slabs on grade
