Trust and Time - Rare management commodities?

If I had a penny for every time someone told me they had no time, I don't think I'd have to work - I'd have heaps of time!  For managers one of the biggest consumers of their time is managing people and other people's issues.  So it follows that if their team members could be more self-managing then that would free the manager's time up to do other things. Joseph Grenny presented a brilliant case study on a team that held itself accountable - not the boss!  The research he was been involved in revealed that the health of the relationship, team and organisation can be measured by the "average lag time between identifying and discussing problems".  This is great news! The more autonomy team members have, the more time you could have, and the happier everyone is!  Sounds easy but the biggest obstacle to achieving this could be trust.

The less time we have the more trust we need if we are to make an impact as managers.
