Are You Storing Your Food in all the Wrong Ways?
Transporting perishables is a tricky and challenging business. On average, ALC Boston moves 400 perishables loads per month, with the intent of delivering produce in perfect condition to sell. Once you have purchased your produce you want to keep it fresh for as long as possible. I have included a few handy tricks to keep your fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy products fresh longer!

I know for a fact that when you buy bananas they brown quicker than you can blink. I bet your vegetables wilt and soften before you can prepare that great meal you planned on cooking.

Being a part of the logistics business, I have become more aware of the value of wasted food. This has inspired me to take better care of my perishable items to ensure they stay fresh.

Here are some handy tips, along with links to get more information about how you can stop wasting food and save money. Google can be our best friend!

  1. Always wrap the stems of bananas in plastic wrap to keep them fresher longer. If that doesn’t work, you can always make some banana bread!
  2. According to Eric Kayser, a Parisian baker, putting your bread in the refrigerator will not keep it fresh. You should take it out of the original bag it was sold in, and place it in a bread box.
  3. Never chop up vegetables or meat, until you are ready to use them. Chopping them beforehand will dry them out.
  4. Wrap cheese in parchment or wax paper, tin foil and plastic wrap will make it dry out. Cheese needs air in order to stay fresh.
  5. Keep your refrigerator clean. Storing food in a clean environment can prevent microbes from contaminating your food and spoiling it.

I hope my tips will help you KEEP IT FRESH!
