There are many faces of Serra’s Fund a Dream.
It isn’t only the recipients of tuition assistance like the son of a struggling single mother or the restaurant owner forced to shut down his business during the pandemic and is struggling to pay his son's tuition. It is the donor who was compelled to purchase a virtual table sponsorship at the St. Serra level, ensuring one year’s tuition for a Serra student. It is the recent graduate who knows the relief that tuition assistance provides to his Padre brothers and contributed $25 to the effort.
Over the past 16 years, the faces of the Serra’s Fund a Dream effort, have evolved into a diverse group of Serra supporters, who we are so grateful for.
One face familiar to everyone is quarterback Tom Brady, Jr. ‘95, whose new team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just clinched a berth in Superbowl LV. It will be Brady's 10th championship appearance in his legendary career. While he is certainly famous for his amazing athletic skills, Brady is also revered for his philanthropy and his determination to always support his team.
In 2012, Tom Brady came to support his team at Serra, and was the keynote speaker for Fund a Dream, which drew hundreds to the event in the school’s Morton Family Gymnasium. The event raised a record $770,000 for tuition assistance. That record stood until 2019, when the "Original Tom Brady" headlined the event and through the generous support of the Padre community helped us raise more than $1 million!
In 2020, Fund a Dream had to be moved from a physical event to a virtual one, but the change in platform did not stifle giving. Serra supporters raised more than $450,000 at last year’s virtual event. All proceeds from this event, generated by donations, cash gifts, virtual table and event sponsorships, support Serra’s Tuition Assistance Program. To date, the Fund a Dream event has raised more than $5 million.
Our 2021 Fund a Dream event scheduled for Saturday, February 27 will also be a virtual experience. We have a great program in store and once again we are counting on our community to Keep the Dream Alive and help us raise more than $500,000 for our tuition assistance program and our Padre young men.
Can we count on you to have a seat at our table?
