A GR8(GREAT) PARADE, MASKLESS ASHES,

AND STATIONS OF THE CROSS!

This past week took quite a shift in energy and enthusiasm as the days progressed. Monday was filled with the JOY of returning to school (with our masks!) and seeing our friends faces after a much needed break, and Tuesday was a celebration of the FEAST before the FAST!

Students were excited to see the 8th graders' parade through their classrooms singing, dancing and passing out candy! By the time Wednesday arrived, gears were shifted, the ALLELUIA had been buried, and our focus turned to our Lenten fast and sacrifices. Father Ryan reminded us all that we are being "Called to Action" during this Lenten season, and that we should be excited to "wake up our souls" and become closer to God! Father distributed ashes to our students and together we prayed for a fruitful journey through this holiest of seasons.

God Bless & Have a Great Weekend!

Remember .... next Friday the 11th is a PD Day for our teachers and there is NO SCHOOL for students!

Our Call to Action

This Lent our school community will embark on the journey that focuses on PRAYER, FASTING and ALMSGIVING. Our students have reflected upon making the next forty days prayerful , purposeful and penitential. As a school community we will be deliberate about making noticeable, as well as internal sacrifices to unite ourselves with Jesus' forty days in the desert.

Even the elimination of our morning music has been a noticeable sacrifice and new time to be silent in prayer!

Our National Junior Honor Society will engage our community in the Lenten pillar of ALMSGIVING, encouraging our community to give to and be of service to others. Each week a service opportunity will be initiated, introduced and encouraged by our NJHS members. Please help their efforts by supporting their efforts through generosity and prayer. Click here for this week's almsgiving opportunity to benefit St. Luke's Hospital.

SEEING CLEARLY IN 2022...

Logan Ferreira was overheard

this week telling

Miss Dandurand,

"My mom paid a check so I can be in your class next year!"

Our students are excited to continue their schooling at St. Francis! If you have not done so already, it is time to secure your child(ren)'s seat(s) for the 2022-2023 school year! Calls have been coming in for spots in our older grades (namely grades 5 & 6) so securing seats in those classes is especially important!

LET'S FOLLOW THE IDITAROD BY

IDITA-READING!

MUSH!

This weekend begins the famous sled dog race from Anchorage to Nome Alaska! Our 4th graders are super excited about the race and have been researching and readying themselves to follow their mushers to the finish line! The enthusiasm expressed by our 4th graders will spread to our school community next week, as we launch a month long read-a-thon race to the finish line! Students will be reading both in school and at home to move along the race trail with their class, earning incentives along the way! Early next week students will have more details pertaining to the IDITA-READ to share with you including sign off sheets for minutes read!

Fly on the Wall Heard in the Hall....

The 8th Grade Student Store was a great success! You may have heard that on Tuesday they had a "blowout sale" selling items at half price before the Lenten fast. While most of what is heard by the fly are younger student sentiments, this exchange was notable!

8th grade student: "Mrs. Russo, I'm not so sure the half price sale was a good idea."

Mrs. Russo: "Oh? Why not?"

8th grade student: "I'm not so sure it encouraged healthy eating habits."
