Together We Can Make Palmetto Bay An Even Better Place To Live, Work, Learn And Play!

April 5, 2021

Happy Monday Palmetto Bay!

I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors over the last week. With so much sunshine and cool breezes, the Village has been buzzing with activity with many residents taking advantage of all of the recreational opportunities around the Village.

April is Earth Month and Palmetto Bay has a whole month of activities planned to celebrate. See below for our Annual Tree Give Away, Community Clean up and more. Our friends at the Everglades Foundation are celebrating #EvergladesWeek with an Everglades 101. You can join Dr. Steve Davis, a Senior Ecologist, to understand why Florida's future depends on a restored Everglades. This event is FREE & open to the public. Reserve your spot today: https://bit.ly/3cHXgUE

A reminder that school is back in session this week and you will want to pay extra attention to the Speed Zones and save yourself some extra commute time in the morning to get to work. Of course if you are working from home, as many still are, then you can use that extra time to have a second cup of coffee from your home office and do a read of this TPO study. The Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) has embarked on an effort to understand telecommuting trends and the possibility that telecommuting can be used as a sustained traffic congestion mitigation strategy and this study comes with several recommendations that may be of interest to our community. Click here to link to the study.

There are a few community meetings this week including our Regular Council Meeting tonight beginning at 6 pm for recognitions, our Art in Public Place Board Meeting, and a Village mobility workshop. You can view the Village calendar for all public meeting information and learn how you can participate. Click here for the Village calendar and notices. Click here for this week's video update.

This year, we are working on a very special Kid's Town Hall with two High School Students, Lara Gastelumerdi and Carolina Merchan, for Mental Health Awareness Month. The Kid's Town Hall will provide a platform to educate the community and provide resources for high school students from panelists representing leading organizations and local high schools. Stay tuned for a Save the Date and more information.

We also have lots of fun activities just around the corner, including Earth Month, a Drive-in movie night, Community Clean ups, Yoga by the Bay, and so much more. It is no surprise that Palmetto Bay was ranked as one of the TOP 10 places to live in Miami, according to Niche.com! I encourage you to stay in the loop with all that is going on by following the Village on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram or sign up for the Village Newsletters.

Together we are making Palmetto Bay a better place to live, work, learn, and play. As always, I am here to answer questions or lend a helping hand. I can also be reached at kcunningham@palmettobay-fl.gov or at 305-799-0695.

Warm regards,
Palmetto Bay Village Hall is open to the public following an appointment system to ensure that no single department or the Village Hall building exceed the capacity limitations under the coronavirus guidelines.
