Keeping you informed....

Happy New Year everyone, and thank you for a successful reentry into our school building this past week. The reason for our success, quite frankly, is the number of families who either decided to "do the right thing" should they have made decisions that may have impacted the health and wellness of our school community or those that decided to stay home as a precaution due to the expected spike in cases. Either way, we are very grateful, as our number of remote learners increased across all grade levels, therefore reducing the number of bodies in the building. This de-densifying of students made it possible to distance desks to 6ft in most of our classrooms, and also allowed us to more easily control the environment.

All that being said, the number of positive COVID-19 cases in our state, and local area continue to be at an all time high. A spike in cases is expected in the coming week as a result of the choice made (by some) to gather for New Year's. As you know, it is our ultimate goal and strong desire to remain open, and in-person for as long as we are possibly able. As a school community, we have done an outstanding job! For this reason, we ask that if remote learning is working for your family's schedule, and your child is a successful remote learner, that you please take into consideration another remote week of learning for this upcoming week. I realize it can be an interruption and inconvenience to your daily rhythm of life to have your children at home with you during the week, and I understand if returning on Monday is your preferred or only option. However, to those parents who feel that remote learning is not an inconvenience and that your children work quite well from home, we would ask that you think about giving us one more week to be able to maintain a lower population of students and generous distancing in our classrooms.

Come Pray for Our Country on Monday!

The events of this past week in our nation's Capital were nothing like any of us has ever seen.

As our response as a community of faith, St. Francis Xavier Church is having a special day of prayer on Monday, January 11th.

From 9:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. the Blessed Sacrament will be present in the main church to allow for communal, socially-distanced prayer

Please plan on stopping by the church at any point on Monday, or consider bringing your child for a quick prayer after pickup on your way home from school to teach them the importance of prayer for our country.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. (Jn. 14:27)

The winter testing session for our

MAP Growth assessment will begin next week with our K-3 students.

Have no fear!

If taking the test remotely becomes problematic (based on child's age, performance at home, technical difficulties, etc.) we are extremely flexible in getting our students tested.

In honor of and to raise awareness about this great leader, students (and faculty!) may come to school in their cozy, winter PJ's (no slippers, please!) on Friday, January 15th as a part of our annual and well loved ration "I Have a Dream Day". Students will reflect on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. in a special way next Friday, before the long, holiday weekend!

Our wonderful School Events Committee has graciously accepted the invitation to assist with making CSW 2021 memorable in the midst of very different times. After Monday evening's meeting, the committee has a "few tricks up their sleeves" and plan to help to make this special week for our school community a fun one!

Mrs. Angeley is asking for donations of magazines, particularly ones with floral arrangements (Martha Stewart, American Homes & Gardens,etc.) for an art project she has planned for our students. Students can place any magazine donations you may have in the box near the gym!
