The Spanish National Honor Society
is sponsoring a
2019 Mission Trips Collection Campaign
Here is an opportunity to help ELCA students impact the world. We are asking for items such as school supplies, reading glasses, un-inflated soccer balls, volleyballs, baseball gloves, over the counter medications (Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, Neosporin, antacids), and toiletry items (soap, shampoo, deodorant) for ELCA students to take to Cuba, Honduras and Puerto Rico on their 2019 World Impact Trips.

Students and parents can drop items at any of the four Spanish classrooms (Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Ferreira, Mrs. Gomez and Mrs. Johnson). The campaign will run from January to February.
Members of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) filled Christmas gift bags and delivered them to Golden Crest Assisted Living Home. Pictured are students Dhruti Trivedi and Vanessa Asapokhai sharing time with the residents.
In the Middle School Classroom

Eighth grade student Jesse Corso auditioned for District Honor Band and was selected as first chair euphonium. Congratulations to Jesse on this remarkable achievement!

Students in Dr. Harrell’s Honors Math 8 class use an online tool called Desmos to work on challenging equations. This tool allows Dr. Harrell to monitor each learner’s progress in real time so she can provide on-the-spot individualized remediation.

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Semi-Finalists
Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy Students Chosen for Next Level in Prestigious Scholarship Program

Sarah Lankie, Dhruti Trivedi and Abigail Yemisrach have been named semifinalists for the 2019 class of the Coca‑Cola Scholars Program, moving to the next round of the selection process to become a Coca-Cola Scholar and receive a $20,000 college scholarship. 1,896 high school seniors were selected as semifinalists from a pool of 95,715 applications from across the country based on their academic excellence, leadership and service demonstrated in school and community activities. A joint effort of Coca-Cola bottlers across the United States and The Coca‑Cola Company, the Coca-Cola Scholars Program is one of the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship programs of its kind. With the addition of the 2019 class, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have provided more than 6,150 Coke Scholars nationwide with over $69 million in scholarships over the course of 31 years.

Semifinalists are now asked to complete Phase 2 applications, which include essays, recommendations, and transcripts. An independent selection committee will review the applications and select 250 Regional Finalists by the end of January to participate in online or in‑person interviews. 150 Coca‑Cola Scholars will be named in March and come to Atlanta in April for a celebratory banquet and Leadership Development Institute facilitated by program alumni.

it is very impressive to have 3 students qualify for this honor...only one other student from Henry County was selected and just 60 in total from the state of Georgia.

Participating students were nominated to attend the event by their instructor, then the UGA bands select students of the nominees to come and audition for a spot in one of the bands. Attending this year from ELCA were Sam Balty, Mary Lynn Ekstedt, Julie Goodner, Jaylan Hinton, and Jacob Strader.

Seniors Brayden Rush and Tre Riddick were named to the Henry County 2018 All-County Football List.
An Impressive Entrance
It's not often that a visitor gets to park on the ELCA football field.

ELCA staff members and students were delighted to welcome Coach Kirby Smart, head coach of the University of Georgia football team to our campus last week as he arrived via 'The Kirby Copter."

“It was great having Coach Kirby Smart here this week. The fact that he flew in on a helicopter added more excitement to it. His being here is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our boys at ELCA. It is great that he recognizes our football program, our school, and our student athletes!” ~Coach Jonathan Gess

As Athletic Director Scott Queen put it, "We gave him the best parking space on campus!"

Coach Gess and ELCA athletes have drawn visits from many college coaching staffs lately. University of South Carolina Head Coach Will Muschamp stopped by this week...but he didn't arrive by air, so...
